I'm glad. I hate to complain, but iTunes has been horribly buggy. The icons for playlists (normal vs smart) kept getting screwy, random freezes, etc.

All I know is that every update seems to slow down my Mac. Sierra is totally unoptimized, brought everything to a go slow. Siri on Sierra is atrocious as well, gets 95% of my requests wrong. Why isn't Mac Siri more like iPhone Siri?

Tip to Apple, don't release software updates unless they are fully optimized, stop destroying the experience, stop destroying the hardware.

I know the feeling - because I want my iTunes 6 back!

That was peak iTunes IMO. It'll never be so great again.
Explain why please. I'm keen to know why the older version was much better.

Is there a way to get iTunes to rebuild its library? For whatever reason it seems to be losing track of what songs are where and I'm getting other signs of corruption. I tried pulling out the .xml file and importing it, but iTunes just hangs. I haven't tried this update yet but I'm not sure whether to update before or after I fix my library...

This will fix a broken library, BUT you'll lose date added, so any smart playlists based on that will be broken. I've had to do it a few times and it's always frustrating.

I miss the ability to install and remove apps in iTunes.
Oh the list is there and last purchased app is at the top of the list and is still dated November 2016, that's when I updated from iOS 8 to iOS 10. I can no longer remove apps from my iPhone in iTunes nor reinstall new app purchases since updating because they are not there. I can only install apps that I purchased in iOS 8.

And no I can't download them in iTunes because I live in a remote area and we only have electric and cell phone data and hotspot.
Apple completely dropped the ball on this one forgetting the millions of users throughtout the world and in rural America that have no internet at home. They can't think outside the box that someone just might not have access to internet at home. Did I miss something and now all the world magically has internet at home when they released iOS 9 & 10?
I can only hope they restore it in iOS 11 and they call it a new feature just as they did when they returned colored labels in the finder on OS X 10.2 and said it was a new feature.

You should see how I have to download El Capitan updates using my iPhone and wifi using an old 32 bit apps that let me download dmg and zip files then transfer them over to the desktop and then install them. Crazy.

It'll be interesting when I purchase a new iPhone 7 and do a restore in iTunes how the apps will magically appear out of nowhere and connect the data restored without me having to have cell phone data overages. I suppose I can find a mcd with wifi. Dumb.

This update made iTunes more responsive, and fixed a bug that was preventing me from using wifi sync to my iPhone. I think this is a good update. People shouldn’t complain so much.
I got so excited after reading your post as wifi sync has been broken for me for quite some time. Sadly this update didn't fix it for me.

Apple is definitely making genius more accessible after hiding it for so long
How so? I certainly don't seem to get Genius results for any additional tracks, and iTunes long stopped offering me a Genius option for newly added tracks. :(

Sometimes it's even worse. Some songs just play for like 45 seconds and then the next track is played. I just can't imagine how this can even happen.

Yes, indeed. Same thing here - sometimes only a few seconds then it's skipped just as if I'd hit the 'Next' button…

There is a new bug, if you're not using iCloud Library, that will permanently delete tracks from your library if you remove them from a playlist.

Thanks for the link.

I was just about to update…

I'll hold off until this has a solution.

*sigh* Apple… sometimes you make it really hard for us to love ya.

More than useful to know, and thanks, @Jessica Lares for the heads-up.

Cue teeth-gritting frustration.

I wish they would release a more stable version. iTunes is the only program I have used that actually freezes my computer at times.

Anyone else having issues with iTunes not showing up in the Mac App Store? I went to iTunes and clicked check for updates, it shows an update then when I click to download it I get error stating, "The phone software update server could not be contacted. An unknown error occurred (-50)

It was really odd that I tried to update to 10.12.3 last night and it kept stating no updates available. I rebooted and checked the App Store and was able to check for the update and it showed up but no iTunes.

I was able to download directly from Apple's website as instructed by AppleCare.

It appears they've yet to fix the Go To Album/Artist capabilities in the contextual menu for any music not purchased through APMS.

Until they bring back the ability for family sharing to access and *DOWNLOAD* tracks from a central machine, it's kind of useless.

I really need to find some alternative for a home music library that actually works again. :( Thanks, Apple!

All I use it for, now and then, is to access iDevices for backup or moving a file, etc. And, even that is REALLY scary, as sometimes it just decides to try and sync (it seems obsessed with sync). A few months back, I plugged in my iPad and forgot I was on a different computer and didn't have that universal *don't sync* setting in prefs, and it took off before I could stop it and erased half my apps (some of them with the data). But, even with that setting, it still tries sometimes (but I haven't noticed damage yet).

It's like Apple is purposely trying to ruin the user-experience.

To be fair, I also updated to the newest version of iOS and macOS, so it could have been on of those. But wifi sync is working perfectly for me now, even automatically when the iPhone is charging in another room.

I'm happy iTunes 12.5.5 no longer complains every half hour that it can't make a connection to the iTunes Store when I had no desire to make such a connection and was merely watching a previously purchased movie or TV show. I was signed into the app with the purchasing ID, and the machine was authorized properly so I saw no reason for such any inquiry, and it was starting to tick me off enough I finally sent a couple of feedbacks about it. Not sure if 12.5.4 or 12.5.3 had introduced that "feature" aka bug, anyway it was maddening while it lasted.

Happier now.. . but not about the thing where it deletes songs from library if you remove from playlist. Grr.

Also for some reason in 12.5.4 it seemed to lose track of where some stuff was located, I had to relocate some TV shows for it when rewatching them after not watching them for about a year. Not sure if that's fixed in 12.5.5 and don't feel like making my stuff a guinea pig to find out LOL. I think it was not a problem in 12.5.3 but I couldn't swear to it.
