Apple today released an iTunes 12.13.1 update for Windows users, with the software introducing security improvements.

According to Apple's release notes, there are no notable new features, but the new version of iTunes should be installed as soon as possible because of the security improvements

iTunes for Windows is typically updated every few months, and this update follows an October release that saw Apple add options for listening to podcasts and audiobooks.

iTunes has been phased out on the Mac for several years now and it has been replaced with Finder and the TV app, but Apple has continued to keep the Windows version available.

iTunes for Windows can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store or from Apple's website.

I wish we had a simpler, more functional music app on iPhone too - Apple Music is messy.

When I signed up to Apple Music it messed up my existing library so bad I decided to go with Spotify for streaming never looked back and for some reason after BigSur you no longer can hide Apple Music anymore.

iTunes is far superior in managing my library of music on the phone than the music app on MacOS.
I have tried and constantly failed to get the correct album art to show up on my iPhone 12 on iOS 17 using Music on Monterey.
Just because multiple songs are performed by the same artist, that does not mean every single bloody song is in the same damn album and use the same album art.
As soon as I go back to manage the phone music using iTunes on High Sierra, everything show up correctly!

I miss iTunes. The mac/tech blogger sphere was all aflame in their hate towards iTunes for reasons I don't understand. iTunes was a superior app to music. I especially like how easy it was to create my own ringtones.
I used it for years on Windows. It was really great for a few years, but over time it became a bit bloated and could be buggy at times. But even still, it emerged out of a fustercluck of random software WinAmp, CDRip, LAME, etc, etc, and did it all... and did it pretty well. Managing a music library used to be a hobby in and of itself. iTunes gave me a few hours back every year.

Wishful thinking is Apple releasing v13 in a complete overhaul of iTunes, which has been a massive garbage dump for years. It was great when it started out but turned into a complete mess when it combined more stuff other than music.
Worse, Apple continues to keep a lock on file transfers from the iPhone back to the PC. Apple's walled garden is a damn limitation that needs to go away. Users have to either do things like 'transfer' via backups online or find 3rd party software to act like a file management to management files between the iPhones and the computer instead of just putting that feature into iTunes and into iOS.

It's part of the Signed and Sealed System Volume now. Ironically they've taken a big step back. MacOS is now the only operating system, including iOS, that doesn't let you remove the bundled apps. Well, maybe Samsung phones. I'm sure that's company Apple wants macOS to be in.

It's even more past time than USB-C was for Apple to move all their first party apps into the App Store. There is no reason for minor Music feature updates to require a complete OS release. It's stupid.

I love seeing iTunes getting love.

Although I'll never switch to Windows, I'm glad to see that iTunes still lives and is even being updated on Windows.

I wish iTunes was still on the Mac instead of it being broken up into different apps with each of those apps redesigned.

I also have iTunes 12.6.5.3 on my iMac running Monterey, installed via Retroactive (big shout out to the dev team!!).
Sadly, it cannot manage music on my iPhone using this.
Have to go to the older iMac running High Sierra to manage every single time is really a pain.
