Apple today released an iTunes 12.12.10 update for Windows users, and the new software adds both security improvements and support for new devices that include the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models.

iTunes for Windows is not updated on a regular basis, and this is the first new software release since May when Apple addressed a major security vulnerability.

Following the update, Windows users should be able to connect the new iPhone models to their PCs for device management purposes.

iTunes has been phased out on the Mac for several years now and it has been replaced with Finder and the TV app, but Apple has continued to keep the Windows version available.

iTunes for Windows can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store or from Apple's website.

I'm surprised the article doesn't mention the preview versions for Apple Music and Apple TV (plus a device management app) that came out for Windows 11 earlier this year. I'm also surprised there haven't been any updates on this since April. Given the importance of services revenue in Apple's earnings you'd think the company would be moving more quickly to put Apple Music on equal footing with services like Spotify for users in mixed iOS/Windows environments.

iTunes for Windows needs some serious work. It’s an absolute mess, and for the many users with iPhones but not Macs, it’s an obstacle to using Apple Music instead of another streaming service, as well as managing their iPhones.

I’m currently between Macs (waiting on M3) and using a PC in the interim. I’m ok with Windows itself, but iTunes runs terribly.

Would have thought it was a perfect opportunity for Apple to show Windows users how well Apple can design software, but it’s not a great advert…

Why would you think it would be well designed on Windows, having such a poor version on the Mac as well? (Music app)

I still find having Apple Music Classical pn the iPhone but not on the mac to be pretty weird...
I'm actually enjoying Music Classical and I'd really like to use it on the mac.

It got work; just like on macOS, it was replaced with Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices. These iTunes updates are just for legacy versions of Windows (everything older than Windows 10 v2004).

Incorrect. Those separated programs are still in “preview”, and barely functional at that. They have not officially replaced iTunes yet.

oh I wish Apple Music was still iTunes

can't stand all the streaming interfaces just let me enjoy my music collection!
Out of curiosity is Apple Music on desktop really that materially different than iTunes when browsing your library? If you ignore the Apple Music sections of the sidebar (and re-add the iTunes store sidebar sections via Settings) the Apple Music app is almost identical to the music library section of iTunes.

Semantics really aren't the point, iTunes isn't going to get anything new anymore.

The interfaces in general are much worse besides the songs tab which is basically all that’s left of itunes. Just adds steps and unnecessary clutter that should be removable.

Its much much worse on iphone tho where you cant remove the streaming/ Apple Music tabs which is most of the bottom bar.

Btw if we use an USB-C cable with USB 3 speed with a 15 Pro, can we expect the backup of the iPhone to the windows PC to be way faster ? Assuming the PC port support USB 3 speed

This is what I’m expecting. What used to take 3-4 hours should now only take 10-15 minutes, certainly makes the annual upgrade ritual a whole lot less dreadful.
Your PC’s storage drive will need to support this kind of read/write speed as well.

The CPU chip in the Pro models only (A17 Pro) support USB3 high speed data transfer speeds, however the cable included in the box does not.
