Apple has also released Logic Express 9.1.7, an update to the company's discontinued lower-level offering.

Full release notes for Logic Pro 9.1.7 and Logic Express 9.1.7 are available in Apple support pages.

Last December, Apple moved Logic Pro to the Mac App Store, lowering pricing and discontinuing the Logic Express product. The Mac App Store version of Logic Pro has also been updated [Direct Link] to version 9.1.7, so users who purchased the software through that mechanism can also update their systems.

you wish...

remember this is just an update, not a new release, can't see how this would be for iPad!

I was kidding. Just a nod to the future when maybe, more pro level software might make it onto iOS. Of course, the world will be a different place by then. iOS and Mac OS X might have become almost the same.

You do know there are free Logic control programs for iPad, right? It might not be Logic on iPad, but now iPad can easily replace some of those two thousand dollar touch control pads. :)

Logic Pro X?

Seems like they're taking their sweet time due to the finalcut debacle! I'm sure they'll get it right this time!

For some reason this brings me out in a cold sweat of fear...

When I first saw this thread, my first thought was please don't do a FCP-X debacle to the Logic guys next.

Fingers crossed. I guess if they don't { screw it up I mean } at least that gives hope that FCP -X might just be remembered as a bad glitch on the radar and not as a growing problem, which is effecting everything else also.

A lot of the reason for the FCP X rewrite was to transition the program to 64bit carbon since Logic is already 64bit carbon I feel they're less likely to screw it up. Precisely because Logic is relatively small seller it is likely to not get messed with to much (I hope!). I think it may get some of the Soundtrack Pro functionality and be sold as a companion to the FCPX (with Aperture being the new "pro" media/meta data manager.

I think you mean 64-bit Cocoa. Carbon is 32-Bit only. On a side note, I think they should merge Logic Pro & Logic Express. Having the two is not really necessary.

Part of the big FCP X debacle relates to the manner in which Apple launched it. It has improved significantly since then and you're right it definitely needed a rewrite and brand new architecture.

They've already have. Boxed versions of both Logic Pro and Express have been discontinued, and at the same time, they've dropped the price of Logic Pro to $199, the price of Express.

By far the best controller for IPad is TouchOSC, highly recommend it for anyone looking for a iPad logic controller

I'm looking for an App for iOS that would allow me to record multi-tracks off my Phonic Mixer. It has both USB and FireWire Ports.
I can do it with my MBP using Logic. It records up to 12 individual Live Tracks simultaneously, plus the Main Stereo Track mixed Live.

I would like to do the same with my iPad for better portability. Any ideas?

Where is Logic for iPad

They really need to make a Logic for the iPad.

In a few years time, no one is going to be using laptops and desktops to make music anymore, everyone will be using tablets like the iPad.

Another thing: the current Logic 9 is so out dated -some of the virtual instruments like the Ultrabeat and the EXS look like they were made in the 90s!

Logic X is long overdue - Apple need to stop being so lazy.

I don't necessarily agree. For those of us who do giant projects with hundreds of tracks, many virtual instruments and tons of effects an iPad isn't going to have the horsepower necessary to get the job done. It will be a good songwriting tool and scratchpad and I use it for that presently but I have a Logic session I jokingly call the CPU killer because it saturates all eight CPU windows yet still manages to run. You need a Corei7 or Xeon for that kind of nonsense.

Once they get a touchpad with appropriate horsepower and digital i/o options (those are around now but...) then we'll see.

Now I'm probably the exception rather than the rule but some of us write very thick layered stuff and an iPad just isn't going to do the job in those cases where big, big, big sessions are happening.

For the love of god, Apple... please crossgrade logic express licenses to work in logic pro. I feel like a sucker for purchasing logic express :(

With this update, I can download the additional content. Was that feature available before?

I think this might be referring to a bug that would happen when you browser the computer to import files - once you find the file and highlight it the import button would become disabled. So you'd have to go into finder, find the file, and drag it into Logic - quite annoying! I certainly HOPE that's been fixed! ;)

we don't want an iOS OSX merger. not now, not ever.

That's hardware impossible, with iPad, afaik.
USB 2 can cope with 4 mono channels streaming. To stream 5+ mono channels you need to use the firewire port thus you would need a Firewire on the iPad.
cheers
