11.7.11? Wow, I actually had to confirm I was seeing this correctly. Good on that, I suppose.
Yes, I turned on my Mac in the morning and had to rub my eyes a little...😂

I have two Macs that still run macOS Catalina, so this is a good thing!

And I’m sure there will be a new thread in approximately 30 minutes of someone screaming about how they “ARE FORCING TAHOE ON ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apple BAD!!!!! TIM CROOK!!!!!!!”
It really does feel like Apple is pushing Tahoe the same way the United Citizen Federation asks, "DO YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE?"

No, no I do not.

Unlike iOS, iPadOS, and the rest, with macOS you can choose the version you install provided that it is compatible with your Mac but in this case, does this mean that even if someone reinstalls macOS 10.15 Catalina they can only update to 10.15.7 and not 10.15.8 [or macOS 11 Big Sur and only update to 11.7.10 and not 11.7.11]?

My series 7 at 11.6.1 says I need to update my iphone when choosing software update under the watch app?
So I have to find an iPhone XS so that I can update it 11.7.11?
That would be like requiring my iphone to be on iOS 26 to update my Apple TV HD, that doesn’t make any sense at all. 😵

Apple bending over backwards and working as hard as they can to avoid that poop-show of the iOS 6 FaceTime issue. Wow! Someone clearly remembers. That person is the saint we should all be thanking. The Unsung Hero of iOS. Thank you, person!

Avoiding another class action lawsuit at all costs.

I mean...yes. But also "Hello, is it me you're looking for?"

Loads of us run older machines that will still need access to 'features such as iMessage, FaceTime, and device activation' – especially if this basically means anything requiring iCloud or Apple ID login.

Basically this update is limited to 64-bit only OSes. Nothing with Rosetta 1 afaiu.

So, no Mojave, High Sierra etc. — which is a pain because I run High Sierra to access the late lamented, 32-bit only QuickTime 7 (there's nothing else like it) as well as a few other apps that were never updated to 64 bit. That machine certainly needs access to 'features such as iMessage and device activation' – and obviously to iCloud for all kinds of functionality and syncing.

You'd think the Pointdexters at Apple could find a way to continue certification for older OSes if they wanted to...

That aside (and it really does worry me, because it's not just a case of 'get a new Mac – you cheapskate' or update to Catalina if you can – it's a case of "Spend days changing your workflow and retraining your brain to work with apps that cost more than you can justify and which don't do what you need them to")...

Ahem, that aside, I hope this update fixes the well-documented and utterly ridiculous never-ending loop of "Login to your ID account to update your settings" which Apple created in a previous Catalina update and seems to have otherwise ignored for years (for which none of the suggested workarounds works).

I live in hope.

Oh Tim Cook, who art in Infinite Loop, hear my prayer.

My mid-2014, 15 inch MacBook Pro Retina will gladly welcome macOS 11.7.11 🙂
The only thing I'm curious about: 2,47GB for a certificate update ??! Yikes!!

Thanks
