Interesting that you mention that. Expect things like that to get worse and worse... eventually your Intel Mac will be rendered virtually useless towards the remaining updates for it. Then you will HAVE to get an M1 Mac. I've suspected this was the case for a loooooong while. And, same thing for the M1 Macs (and all Apple devices). That's how they make their money. They eventually render what you have as unusable, if you refuse to stay onboard their profit boat... they push you overboard, then haul you back in when you buy their latest technology.

Just because I'm happy to own an M1 Mac, doesn't mean I'm not aware of their practices. It's better you know the devil's tactics when you choose to play with the devil. Apple... Microsoft... same devil... different suit and tie. :)
I think that is a) a bit dramatic and b) a bit paranoid. Welcome to cutting edge technology. Nobody is sitting at Cupertino thinking about how to hobble your device. Sure it happens at some point but if you look more closely its not malevolence its usually incompetence.

I just installed it on a Mac mini with two Thunderbolt Display connected to it. They broke thunderbolt, after trying a lot of times, I could boot it up, but the thunderbolt displays only shows video, anything connected to them doesn't work... (FaceTime camera, usb, etc.) Ethernet seems to work.

I had problems with 11.5.1 and was hoping they fix it with this update, but this is much worse!

Well... that explains something. Since 11.5.1 I have similar issues with my Thunderbolt dock. Display works, but USB doesn't every now and then. I though the dock failed, but it worked fine under bootcamp.

So.. I better don't install this update then.

Apple has released a new macOS Big Sur 11.5.2 update, delivering unspecified bug fixes for Mac users running the latest major operating system version. The update comes a little over two weeks after Apple released macOS 11.5.1.

The new ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌macOS Big Sur‌‌‌‌‌‌ 11.5.2 update can be downloaded for free on all eligible Macs using the Software Update section of System Preferences.

We'll update this article if we learn more about fixes included in macOS 11.5.2.

Fixed 2 bugs so far at least.

The voice memo bug. Tested recording a voice memo twice and both times they synced right away to my Mac without me having to reboot or log out of my account to get the voice memos to show up on the Mac.

The long delay in having a disk icon disappear from the screen after an eject. Tested on my flash drive and my backup drive and both times the icons did not take 30 seconds or longer to disappear from the finder.

I am a Chinese user, we often use caps lock to change between Chinese and English. After I updated to Big Sur 11.5.1, it can only change to capital character, not between Chinese and English. What’s more, the Touch Bar would sometimes lag. I think this update is to fix those two bugs.

Getting this message trying to go from 11.5. Completes the download and says "preparing" then this. Any way I can get hold of a standalone updater?

I get that, but some people have issues and have been working with Apple support obtuse and they deserve to know any bugs actually have been fixed…
i was facing battery percentage glitches and 24hrs screen on time issues after updating to 11.5.1 hope those issues getss fixed now

Hmm...You could try again in safe mode to see if something is interfering with the download. Ive had this happen in locations with unreliable internet connections before on my Intel MBP.

Failing that you can always request the "full" installer and install over the top with softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer
Haven't worked out how to download just the update package as the full installer is rather large.

You can also specify the release by adding --full-installer-version 11.5.2

Intel Mini or M1?

I have an M1 Mini, and after installing 11.5.1 found that if the computer went to sleep with the screens turned on, that it doesn't wake up the screens, even though the computer appears to be running.

One monitor is connected via DisplayPort via a TB3 dock, and the other is HDMI direct from the Mac Mini.

Has anyone else noticed that their OneDrive badges on files and folders are missing after installing this update?
For me this has been happening off and on for years now... I contacted OneDrive support several times. After some OneDrive updates it seemed somewhat stable again. I feel they don't include that functionality by default in the test cycle.

Currently it works at least, using macOS 11.5.1 and OneDrive 21.150.0725.0001 (Standalone). Here's to hoping it still will after updating to 11.5.2...

Hopefully this fixes the audio glitches I have been experiencing when typing in applications and listening to audio in Music and Spotify.

I too have experienced some audio glitches, specifically the fact the audio sometimes gets a bit distorted.
I checked my DAC and headphones and the problem doesn't seem to come from either of those...
It has to be macOS related.

I'm still going to update to Monterey when the 12.1 patch is released (I presume in october), but I'd still like to see this solved earlier than then.

Well, at least I know I am not delusional! 😄

Please please, fix the Bluetooth lagging and disconnect bug, which has plagued Big Sur from the get go.
I had terrible issues with my old (c. 2010) Apple Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad, but these stopped a few updates ago.

One thing I also did, which might help, is to use a wired Ethernet connection and disable wifi on the computer. I'm convinced that wi-fi interferes to some degree with the Bluetooth signal from the keyboard/trackpad.

Wonder if we'll ever get a fast updating macOS.
Dont know but is there any diffrence updating when mac filevault is uncrypted vs crypted?

I have never understood why updating is so slow on mac/iphone regardless of hardware it seems.

Not that it is a big issue but would be fun if it was faster

For me, macOS 11.5.2 fixed these problems which were introduced in macOS 11.5.1:

- Screen Brightness and Volume buttons on the TouchBar
- There was a significant lag (5+ seconds) between tapping those buttons and seeing/hearing the results
- Also, tapping those buttons would impact any video playing on my Mac (it made the video stutter)
- Restarting the Mac when it was running macOS 11.5.1 did not fix the issue

Device: MacBook Pro 15" 2017 (MacBookPro14,3), 2.9 GHz Core i7, 16 GB Memory

Does anyone already solved this dreaded thunderbolt power on failed (kernel panic) on this 1 6inch mbp? it has been a year now from catalina to big sur, but nothing fixed this problem. Smc reset nvram reset countless
attempt. Multiple times a day of restart due to this kernel panic. Thankfully with the bootcamp, this machine is still usable on windows( but battery drains fast and hotter). Otherwise it is a scrap. Can not even handle a zoom meeting, simple task but this machine can not
handle. It will restart due to kernel panic. It has been a year without peace of mind using mac os, for sure it will restart due to this kernel panic. Totally unreliable as it restarts each day. A total regret to purchase this 3k dollar machine. I don't know what quality control or stress test put in this machine before release. Since day 1 of purchase it's restarting due to this kernel panic.
Did not have the chance to return due to pandemic. And forgot to mention, i also purchase the magic mouse 2. it connect automatically sometimes but most of the times
need to remove and connect. I thought this MBP 16 could be my workhorse but i regret really purchasing this. I dont have problem with macbook air 2017 (no touchbar) but storage is limited for visual studio development. I don't know if it has something to do with the touchbar. otherwise this touchbar will face the same fate like the butterfly keyboard. will be removed and forgotten. up to this date, still a mystery why this thunderbolt power on
failed always happens. Thankfully this machine is not a car, imagine if it is a car running and suddenly engine stop and restart due to this kernel panic?
