I had no problem with the Combo Updater with my iMac Pro, but it did cause problems with my Mac Mini.
Hmm, definitely a dilemma! What year/model is your Mac Mini? Mine is a late 2018 model, core i5 processor, 256 gig SSD, and 8 gig of RAM. I just got it back in early February, after selling my trusty, reliable late 2012 model (core i7 processor, 256 gig SSD, 8 gig of Ram).
As it is, I will first make a SuperDuper! backup (actually 2 of them) for both of my Macs to 2 separate external SSDs tomorrow (after first using Onyx and Tech Tool Pro for disk cleanup, maintenance, and repairs). If I were to apply the Combo Updater, and things got hosed, I would (should) be able to restart the machine from that SuperDuper! backup, use Disk Utility there to Erase and Format the internal SSD as APFS, and then either do a SuperDuper! recovery, or a clean, fresh, "virgin" installation of OS 10.15.3, and then a migration of everything else from that just completed backup.

Unfortunately not, it’s a old, late 2012 model, my only time machine backup is an old one from last year.
Actually, my late 2012 Mac Mini was working flawlessly before I sold it and got the late 2018 model in early February. I did that for 2 reasons: First, the late 2012 model will, most likely, not support the next version of the Mac OS. Secondly, some financial circumstances, being very positive, came about, and thus it was time to get the late 2018 model.
