Apple Releases macOS Golden Gate Beta 4

I still can't believe Apple hasn't fixed the issues in Tahoe that cause my disk space to fluctuate between 500+GBs free to around 230GBs free with the culprit being a runaway Wallpaper Container in my User Folder Library (and forget about Desktop Pictures working the way they have flawlessly prior to Tahoe). Right now I have over 500GBs free and I know when I restart or startup after a shutdown it is going to be in the 200s (M1 Mini 16/1TB). Why is this happening Apple? Is Liquid glASS leaking? I am not beta testing GG but will install it when it is released because I have clients that will go down the rabbit hole immediately. I really hope they undo the mistakes of Tahoe foisted on us by the SOB who headed its design and then promptly decamped Apple for FaceBook where he is busy f'ing things up there.

The menu bar icons on the login screen—especially the battery symbol—still look like they’re stuck in the Tahoe/Big Sur days.

I’m really hoping the next beta gives them the updated look.

I am on an M1 Max and the previous betas have been very usable, but on b4 i am getting a lot of lag on apps and a lot of "this application is not responding". Anyone else seeing this?

I'm on M1 Max, there are lots of background Apple service apps that use up 100% of my CPU even in idle, my 10 hour Mac has become a 3 hour Mac - I'm currently on Golden Gate Public Beta, upgrading to Developer beta 4 now.

Another thing is lots of my apps aren't working at all, especially Apple's own Logic Pro doesn't even launch.

Mission Control is so much better now, and the menu bar is great. However, windows no longer jump all over the place. (okay it take this one back, but it's much better then it was) This is the most stable beta all around.

Tell me, what happens when you do the following:

1) Make a window a full screen window

2) Activate Mission Control

3) Swipe laterally from left to right

Does it still show a black wallpaper? This bug is there since the early days of Tahoe, and still present in macOS 26.5.2

My Microsoft Office apps have unexpectedly shut down about 10 times over my workday since installing this… wasn’t having any issue of that sort with the previous beta.

It has been very stable (and fast) since beta 1 for a beta, but there are minor things that pop up and third party software hasn't been updated for the system yet, and won't until it is released.

macOS Golden Gate includes multiple design improvements. Liquid Glass opacity has been improved to increase readability, there's a slider for controlling the level of transparency, and changes to shadowing make it easier to tell when a window is active. Apps now have uniform toolbars, edge-to-edge sidebars, and less rounded corners, plus there are fewer icons in menu bars.

This is such good news! All the things I hate on Tahoe will be history? I'm looking forward to the final release.

Nah, not touching this build until it becomes (or is otherwise superseded by) PB2. Especially because PB1 is surprisingly stable. Out of all of my apps, there's a single one that doesn't launch, which is pretty impressive.

Logic Pro works fine on beta 4 for me. Just loaded a project, navigated, played it back without issue.

Asking the wrong person, all my wallpapers are black 😀 oled all the way..
