Because every computer is essentially a unique combination of factors. Hardware (including peripherals), system settings, user configurations, etc, etc. A bug might only manifest itself when a whole bunch of particular criteria are met.

There are also things called "Race conditions", which is when the code expects things to happen in a certain order, but they might sometimes happen in a different order (due to multi-tasking across CPU cores, or new faster CPUs).

No hate involved. Does the OS meet my needs, yes/no.

I'll try it out on the iPad first, that is running 26 already. It's better than it was but still a battery hog.

When GG is up to 27.1 I'll try it out on the M1 MBA. If it's tolerable, great. If it's not, then either downgrade back to Sequoia and give Apple one more opportunity, or throw my hands up in disgust and install Linux. That is an option now.

and some people have really good suspension, and some are pedestrians.

(workflows or user behaviour patterns that pre-mitigate the problem below the point where you'll be bothered to have your fulsome bug report ignored in feedback assistant...)

I've been wondering that as well, but this 8th version does actually (mostly) resolve the issue! The menus now open almost instantly upon click. So that's great news.

The click->open response was instant on Tahoe, so the remaining small delay might very well be due to what you're describing. Or maybe there's just more room for optimization here. Either way, I'm much happier with this latest build so far: the menu bar, mission control, and space switching all continuing to get even smoother and more responsive.

Downloaded, and it works. I have seen no glitches. The external drive glitch was gone in the last beta. Heva not checked this on this update. Hope they break nothing what was good!

The combination of 3rd party software, settings, drivers, and even physical peripherals (USB, TB) is something Apple or even other software companies cannot ALL replicate. Hence, the need to have the OS tested in different configurations outside the development environment. Add on top the different ways of how different people interact and accomplish the same task can bring out bugs which the developers may not have accounted for.

Unless I am missing something, I don't think macOS 26.7 RC 3 (25G227) exists...

It will be added in due course, just like calculator on the iPad.
 
Ugh. All of the Mail app bugs seem to still be there. Random freezes. All kinds of craziness with automatic flagging of messages (which I never use) and that are annoyingly hard to remove. Given how much I use the mail app I really wish they'd put some more engineering time into making it better than it was in 2002. I have an English degree so I don't need AI to wrote messages for me. What I do need is automated tools to help me organize and archive a massive backlog of messages. I also wish they would do a MUCH better job of managing SPAM. The number of SPAM and phishing messages that avoid the filters is very frustrating.
