Need another Mac with Sonoma or later to attempt a revive (best case) or restore it, which I don’t have right now. Will update when I’ve had the chance…I'm curious. Did you sort this out? Do you have to reinstall or?
I found a solution that has worked for me for this problem.I've been having a heck of a time with external drives since Ventura. I haven't updated to 15.5 yet, but I isn't see any documentation regarding this.
Can't believe it either! By this stage I guess it's never getting fixed. I just hope it's resolved in macOS 16.Unbelievable they still haven't fixed AirDrop disappearing from the Finder sidebar.
Which bugs specifically are you referring to?Did they finally fix this buggy OS in this update? Sequoia has been terrible in comparison to Sonoma
I've skipped 15 thus far and probably will completely. Sonoma is solid as a rock for me on my M1 Max Studio and I don't have any AI annoyances. I also held back on an M4 Studio because I would be forced onto 15 if I upgraded.A fair few major updates, is macOS always like this? Just seems no sooner than I downloaded one update then there is another.
Maybe i should have stayed with Sonoma
Do you have any children?Or, don't rely on Apple to do your parenting for you?
Do you have any children?
4 actually. And they all turned out well. Doctor, Scientist, Teacher and Accountant, and all under 30. My parenting skills and control of smartphones, laptops, tablets and everything else all before these tools existed.
A simple yes or no will do, if you don't want to engage then fine.Go back and read before you comment.
Well, apparently nothing a restart initiated via the keyboard couldn't solve. All normal now...Sorry if I am hijacking this thread but I have a question for you experts. I was trying to fix an MS Outlook window sizing issue on a Macbook Pro. I went to the upper left where the red, yellow and green dots are clicked on the green and then there was a dropdown which said full screen and some other stuff. I accidentally chose something like "move everything to the left of the screen".
Now the main display is totally black and the only thing showing is the dock. No menu bar at the top. If I click on any app in the dock, it opens briefly and then quickly moves to the left off the screen. How can I get out of this mode? I am even unable to restart or shutdown the machine.
I would rather not hold down the power button to shut it down and I am not certain that if I did it would not come back the same way.
Any ideas guys. This is really annoying. I hope I accurately described what I did/chose, because it happened so quickly.
What a PITA due to my heavy handedness.
Thanks!
My favourite Steve Jobs quote when asked about the iPad was when he shut the interviewer down and said he doesn’t allow his kids to use tech at all. That tells me everything I need to know about kids and these devices. We have a generation of zombies. Just because most parents have given into this insidious trend doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. And nothing good socially comes out of phone use by teens. Dumb phones can do the text thing easily. And god forbid kids interact face to face.Sounds like you don't have any kids... What is your suggestion? To sit in the room monitoring all usage while the teenager is using their device? That sounds like a non-starter... Or not letting them have a device in their possession at all? The phones are how kids communicate, both for classwork as well as socially. And what would you be teaching them to just take it away anyway? Kids need to learn how to use a phone responsibly. And let me tell you, it is no easy task getting all the parental controls set up properly in order to give kids some freedom, but curtail some of the abuses. The comment from @East_Bay_Mac was right on target.
Hmm, supposing my teen got to interact with someone of a completely different culture and learned from them using socail media on his/her phone, would that still fall under your heading of, "nothing good socially comes out of phone use by teens."?My favourite Steve Jobs quote when asked about the iPad was when he shut the interviewer down and said he doesn’t allow his kids to use tech at all. The Continuity features worked fine for me before the macOS 15.5 and iOS 18.5 updates. After updated last night, they stopped working.Since MacOS 15.4 I have had major issues with airdrop, Universal Clipboard, and any continuity feature. I have submitted bug reports multiple times and they haven’t addressed them. Anyone else experiencing this?
It’s been a real buzzkill for productivity. I was used to being able to copy something from my iPhone or iPad and just paste on my Mac. Can’t even use my iPhone camera for conference calls. Wish they would fix these major bugs!
Some people are better at saying than doing. Sometimes what they’re saying is worth doing but they don’t get beyond the saying. I think the poster’s comments about the mainly negative impact of social media are fair. They should have called it ‘anti-social media’ but that would go against the culture of doublespeak we tend to dabble in.Hmm, supposing my teen got to interact with someone of a completely different culture and learned from them using socail media on his/her phone, would that still fall under your heading of, "nothing good socially comes out of phone use by teens."?
Steve Jobs is a fine one to talk given that he didn't spend a lot of time talking to Lisa. In fact he probably spent more time talking to "The" Lisa, than he did to his real daughter Lisa.
She'd probably have benefitted from an iPhone to relax with.
Are not anybodys comments deriding the negative aspects of anything fair? The statement the OP made was hyperbolic at best, just stupid at worst. Some people are better at saying than doing. So now I’m back in the game!Need another Mac with Sonoma or later to attempt a revive (best case) or restore it, which I don’t have right now. Will update when I’ve had the chance…
I've upgraded my mac to this. (TBH I was actually not going to, because I was scared that my mac would just shut down forever) Guess I was wrong

Be interesting to see or hear what Steve's kids REALLY did despite his 'parenting'.
