Since this update, my speakers are low volume and hallow sounding on my M1 MacBook Air. I've turned the volume up to the max, and something is certainly wrong that wasn't present before the update.

Well, it was bound to happen eventually...but Sonoma 14.3 was the first macOS update in 15 years of using Macs that ended with me booting into recovery and re-installing the entire OS and recovering from a TimeMachine backup. Got an endless bootloop on my M1 Air with the OTA update that was impossible to recover from. Hopefully everyone else has a better experience. Currently typing from my Windows 11 machine that...just works 😆

EDIT: I'll give credit to the macOS restore/recovery process. Incredibly smooth and essentially like nothing ever happened...now sitting on 14.3.
My Mac Pro (Late 2019) rebooted at least 3 or 4 times during the update process... and in two of those reboots there was remaining time calculation, but it was completed successfully at the end.

This is completely normal in terms of how the update process behaves now

How wonderful! Thank you. You've convinced me to stop using OTA to update my Mac and instead use the full installer.

After reading your posts, I used the full installer via macOS Recovery, and my Mac is running good. Someday in the future when I get another Mac, I will download the full installer instead of using macOS Recovery in order to save time by not having to download a second time for more than one Mac.

Aside from a Mac, the only other Apple product I have is an iPhone. Whenever an iOS update comes out, I never use OTA but instead use a USB cable to connect my iPhone to my Mac and use the Finder to update my iPhone with the IPSW file. Would you happen to know if that is the most comprehensive update option for iPhone, or is there a more comprehensive update option similar to a full installer?
I update my iphone and ipad always with a usb cable connected to my mac. Others though, will always do the OTA. I do not mind the extra time it takes to do it the older way, so its really up to you.

Just tested the update on our testbench iMacPro 1,1 and it booted to the startup disk selector wanting to 'Update the partition'. Ive seen this happen before, the 'update partition' always fails on the iMacPro1,1's for some reason but I just select the correct startup disk, reboot and all is well again.

However this time I selected the update, update fails (as per usual - been happening since Ventura), selected correct startup disk, rebooted and now its booting straight into the kernel panic.

I'm now re-installing the OS.

Is Apple aware their screensavers don't download? This has been an issue since the initial Sonoma. Jesus Apple, it's a freaking screensaver and I'm using an Apple silicon Mac. 🤦‍♂️
You mean wallpapers...? There aren't any downloadable screensavers I don't understand how someone doesn't understand the difference between a wallpaper and a screensaver..🙄.🤦🏼‍♀️ I wish Apple would update the screensavers. Drift (set to spectrum) is, IMO, still the only decent one...

So am I, and the they download fine for me; set up a new user on your Mac and see if they download there OK?
I can say there is a small delay for the aerial image options, while macOS downloads it from Apple, but they usually complete the progress circle after a minute.

I think what's being referred to is the aerial images that can be set to be used as screen savers:

But yes, I would like Apple to come up with some new stylish motion graphics to add to the current (non aerial) screen saver options. Drift is nice, and agree spectrum is decent – although desktop colours option can work well too. The Hello one is also quite nice (looks nice when set to Minimal).

Wow, sore spot for you? Thanks for explaining the difference. 🤝

14.4 developer beta 1 has completely broken my wallpaper System Settings for my M1 studio ultra.
Aerial screensavers have frozen and never worked properly since day one 14.0, now accessing the wallpapers settings causes Systyem Settings to unexpectedly quit. Reported by feedback assistant.
