Apple today released a new update for tvOS 11, the operating system designed to run on the fourth and fifth-generation Apple TVs. tvOS 11.2.6 comes one month after the release of the tvOS 11.2.5 update, which focused on bug fixes and other under-the-hood improvements.

tvOS 11.2.6 can be downloaded over the air through the Settings app on the Apple TV by going to System --> Software Update. Apple TV owners who have automatic software updates turned on will be upgraded to the tvOS 11.2.6 automatically.

As a minor 11.x.x update tvOS 11.2.6 focuses on performance improvements and bug fixes to address issues that were discovered following the release of tvOS 11.2.5. It is being released alongside bug fix updates for iOS, macOS, and watchOS to address a problem that caused devices to crash due to an inability to render a specific character in the Indian language Telugu.

tvOS 11.2.6 will be followed by tvOS 11.3, an update that is currently being beta tested and is slated for release this spring.

For me:
  • Fast list scroll on :apple:TV4 is fast and "normal." Hold "down" on the remote and it will quickly & smoothly scroll all the way to the bottom of the list.
  • Fast list scroll on :apple:TV4K seems to shift into fast scroll mode for about a second, then stops, starts & stops, starts & stops... as if I'm holding down to get fast scroll started, then letting up, over and over.
Anybody else with both models notice this? Does this update maybe fix it?

Post-Install Update: Nope- still stalls in fast scroll, only scrolling chunks at a time. Former model still has fast scroll able to fast scroll.

I hope it fixes the bug where it can’t consistently remember if I have purchased a movie or not. (I have purchased over 1,000 movies from Apple, and the experience, particularly on iOS Purchased tab is pathetic. On Apple TV, it will ofen forget almost all the movies I have purchased and only list 8 random purchases. A reboot usually fixes it.)

The bugs in Apple TV are making me think about leaving the Apple movie/tv content ecosystem. The bugs in iTunes already drove me away to Spotify, and the corruption of libraries during the Apple music launch ensured I won’t trust Apple with my music and will never use that service or buy a HomePod.

All I’ve got left with Apple and content is movies. Hope they fix the bugs soon. Otherwise, waiting until something comes to Netflix or HBO isn’t that big of a deal.

Same here... massively invested into Apple recently IPad Pro , MacBook Pro 15, iPhone X, HomePod... and Apple TV4k which leave me with inconsistent bugs. Mostly one in IMovie theater which cannot connect to see my movie where it works flawlessly on my Mac, iPad,iPhone.

I have the ATV2 and am still completely happy with it. I bought the ATV4 for my mother and found it confusing, SIRI sucked, and the remote was a train wreck. Luckily the old remote still works with ATV4. That being said, I see zero reason to replace my ATV2.

Same problem here when swapping over accounts. Just a bit of a mess. Wrong store appearing for my partner whose from NZ, occasional aspect ratio issues too.

The newest Apple TV makes me miss my old tv with rabbit ears. That remote is a nightmare, it’s so twitchy. The bugs are so odd and random and hard to get rid of sometimes. The only person who can get it to work is my husband and that’s not without considerable frustration. The kids and I prefer to read or watch movies on our tablets anyway, but occasionally we’d like to see a movie on the big screen tv when their friends come over and have it all “just work”.

Honestly for me it’s the exact opposite. Been sick of the slow pace when using the music or image library, also the lack of updates. For the relatively low price point it was a nobrainer for me to update at some point in time. Let alone the new UI is pretty awesome, also the overall performance and for sure the App Store as well.

As for Siri, you couldn’t be more right.

After updating to tvOS 11.2.6, I don´t see the recently updated Apps in the AppStore anymore
