Excellent, Apple just sold two more Homepods, although there's still something missing that would seal the deal for me: being able to control the Apple TV via Siri on the HomePod. I know this is possible via airplay but I have a sound system in my living room, and want to be able to pause the TV show or whatever I'm watching when I get a phonecall for example.
I was able to say “pause the living room Apple TV” (or just pause the living room) and it worked. So far it can play/pause and control volume. Not sure what else it can do besides that and directing it to play music.

Is there some trick that the Apple TV shows in the Home App?
I had issues with mine showing up after updating. I went into the airPlay settings on the ATV and set it up that way by putting my iPhone close to the ATV then all worked fine and shows up in the home app. Just wish automation worked with it now!

I've been waiting. Looks like I will be ordering several Homepods now.

Enjoy. Its an outstanding device. The sound is crisp, clear and the sensitivity with Siri commands is actually really good. Highly recommended device given the competition and how it really does Boast the audio.

I am not saying the sound isn't very good but I doubt it come even close to what my system sounds.

I can’t attest to what you have, and I know the HomePod is not a cheap alternative by any means, but for a “Smart speaker”, in excels well past my expectations of what I thought it was going to sound like, given how large my living room is with vaulted ceiling‘s, it literally *is* room filling.

Has anyone been able to download this?

If so, what's the build number?

Interestingly in 11.4 when pairing an Apple TV with a HomePod (or other airplay speaker) instead of fixing the audio latency problem (where the audio in a game lags 3+ seconds behind the video) it will just automatically route audio from games and other non-video/non-music apps to your television and then when you go to play a video or song it will route it back to the HomePod automatically.

This isn’t quite as ideal as fixing the underlying problem but it’s still a hell of a lot better than having to manually disconnect and reconnect the Apple TV to the HomePod when I go to play a game on it!

Ughhh they removed the ability to adjust HP volume on the Apple TV on iOS remote control center...... I used that all the time :(

Fair enough, my speakers are probably 50 times the volume of the HomePod or even more, more than 40" tall-12" wide and 15' deep 60 KG a piece, a do it yourself package which cost close to €1500, comparable to a few €1000's branded speakers.
So, yeah, can't really compare them.:D

Does anyone else find it funny and weird to put a phone in a plant or on it like in the original article?

The one thing that is still missing is the ability to turn on/off an TV using HomePod. "Hey Siri, turn off living room TV."
That would complete the HomePod experience for me.

I never knew you could do this. I wished at one point that I could... At least now I know I could have, yesterday.

My wife and I watch TV before bed, but don't want the volume to be too loud or to disturb each other too much. Could I hook an Apple TV up to my TV, and have a HomePod on each of our nightstands and control the volume of each HomePod independently?

Stereo. That is when you have two signals that mix to provide a spatial audio field. Now that you, Apple, have figured that out, would you grab an intel xeon reference design and make us a Mac Pro?

just say "hey siri, set the volume to 20%" or things like turn it up, turn it down, etc.
Not as convenient (and only works with the HomePod), but that’s what I have to do I guess.

If you don’t use stereo pairing, yes - you can independently connect to each one. But it would sound pretty awful with the sound coming from one side in mono.

I would recommend getting AirPods instead.
