Apple today released a new firmware update for the Lightning version of the AirPods Max headphones. The new firmware is version 6F25, up from the prior 6F21 firmware the device was previously running.

Apple does not often provide much insight into what's new with firmware updates, but as this is a firmware update for an older model, it likely includes bug fixes and other minor improvements.

Firmware can be installed by putting the AirPods Max in Bluetooth range of an iPhone, iPad, or Mac that's connected to Wi-Fi, and then plugging them in to charge. It can take up to 30 minutes for firmware to update.

You can check your firmware version by going to Settings > Bluetooth and selecting the Info button next to the AirPods Max when they are connected to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

I really hope they release new one for the AirPods Pro 2, the 7B21 hasn’t been really great, I have experienced couple disconnecting problems here and also low volume sometime for absolute no reason.

theres a weird airpods max bug on macOS where if you're listening to music, then click on a voicenote in imessage to listen to it, when the music comes back after the voicenote is done playing its super tinny and mono and can't be fixed aside from a system reboot

nifty, I don't have any APM headphones but glad to see they updated it. the APP2 got an update not long ago. Some have issues others not. I'm part of the latter group.

On a different note, why the links to iPhone and iPad buyer's guides in the article, but not Mac? Just curious.

Why just for the lightning version? Are they butchering them so people go out and buy the new model?
They don't have to butcher my pair - they're already loosing connectivity like it's nobody's business and the battery life is half of what it used to.
I've had mine for two and a half years and it has been the worst performing Apple product I've had and I've been using their stuff for 25 years now.

Try disabling Head Gestures to see if the low volume issue improves.
I'm experiencing disconnects as well.

I also have a weird glitch, where if an alarm goes off, when I switch back to my music or podcast the volume is like 25% lower. Every single time... it's very annoying, hopefully this fixes that.

Huh. Another Tuesday goes by without an M4 MBA announcement.
Wonder if Apple will release an actual upgrade to the Max when they eventually get around to announcing the Pro 3's.

safari is snappier? lol

on a side note, back to the plug it in, hope it gets the update yada yada since you cant do a normal update like most other products

Finally an update for the overpriced headphones! :D /s
overpriced for you maybe sure. But for TONS of customers, they are priced right. These sell like hotcakes, in fact so well that they didn't even bother spending RD money to improve. Just released the v2 with a different port.

Sure but that doesn't mean it's acceptable what Apple did.

I've read numerous reports indicating that Apple intentionally degrades ANC on the AirPod with each firmware update. I don't know it those reports are true or not. Personally, I haven't noticed any deterioration in ANC on my APPro.

So now, are you saying that Apple is also intentionally degrading the quality of the lightning Max? If so, should I buy the USB C version?

What would happen to Apple if it became common knowledge of their intentional crippling of products to force purchase of new versions?

Tim is giving us the H2 chip via a software update finally.
Haha, came here to post that exact joke.

I do love my four year-old first gen Maxes, but to be honest if they'd put the new chip in there (along with Adaptive Audio), I'd probably have retired them a few months ago to get the new features. Ah well, their loss I guess.

That's just a horse **** conspiracy theory. Mine still shut out massive amounts of sound.
