A forced update with no release notes.

If Microsoft tried this, they'd be crucified.
Every single time Microsoft auto updates Windows 11 they change my power plan back to default from my custom plan, which screws up my server when it automatically goes to low power mode. 😠😠

Does anyone else have the issue where the sound will pan back and forth sometimes? Like the singer will drift around until I take them out and put them back in. It’s not the song because if I start the song over after, the singer stays centered.

Maybe this update will fix that.
I've had that before, on a freaking call! I was like THIS IS A PHONE CALL it is in MONO there shouldn't be any stereo effects! But there were.

Granted, it was rare, but weirded me out.

Mine updated immediately when I first did a hard reset of the pods, then plugged it in via a USB C cable to my iPhone 15 Pro Max and re-paired it. I closed the case, walked away for give minutes, came back and it was done. I won’t comment on whether the noise cancelling has changed, because I now have no way to A/B, and even if I did, I’m fully cognizant of the cognitive bias confounds that lead all these grumps to report that the ANC got worse every single time a new firmware revision drops.

But I did notice an issue. Things in general seem to be working fine, except that in Find My it shows that setup is not complete, and that all features are not available. It also shows that it is unable to find the location of the case, despite indicating that it’s at my home on the map.

I followed all the directions on the help page for this, and the problem still exists. Tried removing them from my list of devices and readding them, didn’t fix it. It says that it can take some time to fully pair; I’ll report back if the problem fixes itself.

Yup I get this. It seems to happen most often when connected to macOS. I even sent my AirPods in for repair but they couldn’t replicate it they said.

Let's say I left my AirPods Pro 2 case somewhere and I bought another case on Amazon... will they update? Cuz it's been four months since I lost the case and my firmware is way outdated. Any firmware experts out there?

Don’t the pods and the case have to match up serial numbers or some such to pair with each other?

Apple today released new firmware update for both the Lightning and USB-C versions of the AirPods Pro 2. The new firmware is version 6F7, up from the 6B34 firmware released in November.

Apple does not provide details on what features might be included in the refreshed firmware beyond "bug fixes and other improvements," so it is unclear what's new in the update.

Apple does not give customers instructions on how to upgrade AirPods software, but firmware is generally installed over-the-air while the ‌‌AirPods‌‌ are connected to an iOS device. Putting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ in the case, connecting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to a power source, and then pairing the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to an iOS device or Mac should force the update.

You can check your ‌‌‌AirPods‌‌ firmware by following these steps:
  • Connect your ‌‌‌‌‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌‌‌‌‌ to your iOS device.
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap About.
  • Tap ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌.
  • Look at the number next to "Firmware Version."
If we learn more about what's new in the firmware release, we'll update this article.

This is so infuriating. ANC hasn’t worked for me for God knows how long. Or transparency. In fact all those different options no longer worked. The update doesn’t fix this either. Supper. ANNOYED!

You are sure you have original ones? This works for everyone else you know

Yes exactly that. It's been an issue since day one with none of the firmware updates even addressing it, never mind reducing it. Over one hour sitting with no audio from any device, just EarPods in sat in the room with the TV on. ANC is definitely tighter with zero drifting in and out.

*Edit. I run a small business with a pneumatic machine. The cycle of the machine had a wide range of frequencies but there is one which is particularly annoying which ANC doesn't seem to kill, in fact it highlights it. I've just tried the machine and it is definitely, by a long chalk, much improved.
The drifting is a sign for a bad fit. Did you try another (of the three) size and did the fitting test?

So I don't know if it's just my imaginatio, but I've noticed the ANC being really effective today. I was walking outside on my lunch break, without actually playing any music, and realized that I was hearing absolutely nothing - wind, footsteps, the Tic-Tacs in my pocket - nothing. Later, when I sat at an outdoor cafe eating my lunch and watching the WCF game, I realized that I couldn't hear the two old ladies sitting at the table next to mine, talking incessantly the entire time. And THAT'S why I love AirPods - not having to hear other people's inane conversations and bodily functions (lots of sniffling/slurping of snot, rather than simply blowing one's nose, in Japan. Drives me nuts).

TLDR; ANC has been great today, post-update.

The firmware update might be having something related to the recent tinnitus survey.

I'm with everyone else.
Sound goes crazy in the gym, fading in and out. That's in with any and all noise cancellation modes and with noise cancellation turned off.

Tried the fit test multiple times with the mid sized tips being the ones that seem the best fit. Still, after using them all day while working it's 100% fixed for me. Just more stable ANC.

I have also noticed more effective ANC, the real test will be on an A320 flight!

I used mine for a few hours yesterday.
Today, it's like I went to a concert last night. My ears are ringing and stuffy like I was exposed to loud noises for too long.

somehow the connection seems better, I don't get distorted or disconnected audio while I go to the toilet and my phone left in the room.
