Apple today released a new firmware update for the AirPods Pro 2, with the software available for both the USB-C and Lightning models. The AirPods Pro 2 firmware has a build number of 7A305, up from the 7A302 firmware released earlier in September.

There is no word yet on what's included in the firmware, but Apple is planning to add hearing aid and hearing test features to the AirPods Pro 2 in the not too distant future.

The firmware update could potentially lay the groundwork for those capabilities ahead of when the full feature set comes out in an iOS 18 update. Apple has already received FDA approval for the hearing aid functionality for the AirPods Pro 2.

Apple doesn't have a way to manually upgrade AirPods software, but firmware is generally installed over-the-air when the AirPods are in a charging case and connected to an iOS device or Mac.

Mine have been randomly disconnecting after updating to the most recent iOS 18 beta. I hope that this will fix the problem, otherwise I'll be forced to hand them over to Apple and hope that they get exchanged.

I'm confused. How do you connect them to an iPhone or Mac while they're in the charging case?

Serious question!

I'll say though that with the last firmware update, I have noticed that occasionally the AirPods Pro when in their case will make a small electronic sound, like a series of beeps. It's a very soft sound that some ears might not detect. I wonder if this new firmware will get rid of this sound.
Been hearing the same electronic sound even since the last firmware version before 302

The usual:

'magic dance of plugging both things in and trying to ignore checking the firmware after making sure the bluetooth was connected before closing the charging case'

voila. 7A305. ymmv.
The "technique" I use, which seems to work, is I plug my iPhone. Then I connect my buds and either listen to some music or video for a short while, then I return the bugs to the charging case. Then I leave it alone for some time. When I got back to check if the firmware has been updated, it usually is.

Oh, even before 302? Hmm....! If my memory serves me correctly, I haven't noticed that before unless I'm mixing up the timelines of when firmwares were upated etc.

yeah, that small electronic sound is a little bit annoying. I heard it a few times in the middle of the night. Wonder what is triggering it.

It seems to happen for me shortly after putting them in the case for charging. Thought they may have had a hardware issue, but even after replacing the case and AirPods under warranty for battery-related issues, they still make those noises.

Yeah, it doesn't seem consistent in my case. The sound doesn't happen all the time. Thankfully, it's not frequent. It makes it sound like a cheap knock-off toy.

Maybe the sounds that they make when in Head Gesture mode?
Since the last version I have an issue with the head gestures turning ON by themselves and not when they should.
My music goes down and I hear beeps when I move my head.

Hmm, interesting. I do have Head Gesture mode turned on but have actually never used it.

Really hoping THIS update fixes the popping sound during Siri Announcements, as the previous update didn't and it annoys the stuffing out of me.
