what i want is the ability to disable automatic switching completely. Great idea that never works right (try answering a phone laying on your desk, with an ipad open playing a video and a computer running next to it. It's pot luck where the ipads connect when you put them on.

Barely ever works for me. Have to manually switch them more often that not. Doesn’t help having both airpods max and pros. Think it just gets confused by 2 sets of Airpods and all the different devices.

If they can make any improvement to it then I’ll be happy.
And what's worse, is even when you do manually switch, the darn things switch back by themselves in the middle of a call!

Do you have some interference or something wrong with either device?

I use my APM with one of our ATV4K's every single night for a couple hours and haven't heard static or crackling...ever..

That would be unacceptable to me also
Maybe a hardware issue with either device?
That’s certainly possible but I live in the burbs so I’m not sure what could be interfering with it. My AirPods Pro work better but it’s still not perfect. They both work fine with my iPhone, iPad and Mac so for now I’m SOL cos Apple support said it’s a known issue but there’s no official fix and it’s out of warranty.

I thought auto-switching was great...until it screwed up the mundane...like wanting to answer my phone with my AirPods.

Now, I just want my AirPods to work with my iPhone -- that's it. Instead, it takes forever to connect because it seems to checking with my iPad, two Macs, and several Apple TVs...even though they are all set to not auto-switch. Meanwhile, the person who called me is saying "hello, hello".

Twice, I tried just telling my Macs to "forget" my AirPods, thinking that would solve it. Instead, it actually makes every device forget my AirPods, including my iPhone....who in the heck designed this process!?!

I know...first world problems. But I almost want Apple to stop adding features. The notion that "it is Apple, it just works" seems so outdated now. I feel like I'm becoming one of those old men who says "in my day, appliances didn't have screens and wi-fi connections...and they just worked"
yeah exactly! I got tired of the headsets refusing to connect to my phone when I have a phone call. or my ASLEEP computer upstairs taking over the headset while I'm in the middle of a call. so I tried to get all my devices to forget. I have multiple apple headphones so I just wanted my AirPod Pros to ONLY connect to the iPhone and nothing else....nope no good.

...and don't even get me started on the Max. that thing viciously takes over my phone in the middle of calls regardless of what I'm using because it never seems to be able to turn itself off. Apple: If you don't detect me wearing them, they should NOT be taking over calls for me...

Any guesses as to how long it will take to release the beta firmware as a real release now that iOS 16 has been released?
