Apple Releases New Firmware for AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Pro 1 and AirPods Max

Apple today introduced new 5B58 firmware for the AirPods 2, the AirPods 3, the original AirPods Pro and the AirPods Max, up from the 4E71 firmware that was released back in May. Apple released the 5B58 firmware for the AirPods Pro 2 earlier this week.

Apple does not offer immediately available release notes on what's included in refreshed firmware updates for the AirPods‌, but the company does maintain a support document with release information.The 5B58 update for the AirPods Pro 2 added "bug fixes and other improvements," with no other details available.

There is no standard way to upgrade the ‌AirPods‌‌ software, but firmware is generally installed over-the-air while the ‌‌AirPods‌‌ are connected to an iOS device. Putting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ in the case, connecting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to a power source, and then pairing the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to an iPhone or an iPad should force the update after a short period of time.

You can check your ‌‌‌AirPods‌‌ or ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌‌‌‌‌ firmware by following these steps:

• Connect your ‌‌AirPods‌‌ or ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌‌‌‌ to your iOS device.
• Open the Settings app.
• Tap General.
• Tap About.
• Tap ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌.
• Look at the number next to "Firmware Version."

If we find notable changes after the firmware updates are installed, we'll update this article, but the software likely includes performance improvements and bug fixes.

unchanged for me, anyone saying otherwise are just lying or with wax stuck in the microphone meshes.

I went for a bike ride last night and didn't notice any difference in sound or ANC. I was already on the new firmware and nothing to me was changed. I had no issues with the previous firmware, though. I'm getting ready for another bike ride in about 30 mins and will report back if I find any issues but so far, no differences for me after updating.

Another owner of APP2 here - unchanged for me as well - same as it was before.

My Airpods 3 are on 4E71 interestingly enough.

Heres hoping this brings back the great standby battery life I got with 4A400 on my AirPods Max. Prior to 4A400 and later firmware, I was/am losing around 10 percent whilst in the case, over a 18-24 hour period. With 4A400 I was only losing 0-2 percent.
