I don't think there is a way to do this. I'd try repairing? (Settings --> Bluetooth --- forget. Hold button on back of AirPods with top open near iPhone to re-pair).

My APP2 sound identical before/after the update. I test with a fan next to my desk.

Hi, yes a re-paired again but nothing changes.
I tested with apple watch, the ANC has lost 8db of power in reduce sound and it's noticeable.
I'll have ac+, i'll try a swap, many people state the ANC hasn't been wrecked.. so perhaps it just my unit (even if i'm really doubtful about it).

My APP2 also sounds like the noise cancellation has been dramatically reduced. On the plus side, the wavering audio drift seems to be almost entirely gone.
I've been a skeptic, but the new firmware has definitely screwed up my APP2 ANC. I've been doing this all afternoon. Sitting at my desk, with nothing playing and with my AC running, there is a loud hissing that I can eliminate for a few seconds by temporarily engaging transparency and then going back to ANC. Moreover, the hissing fluctuates when I leave ANC engaged. This is on top of all the connectivity issues, none of which were fixed. I truly hate these things.

BTW, I will never connect my AirPods Max to my iPhone ever again. In fact, I'm deleting it from the Bluetooth right now. This is fine, because I use it wirelessly with my PC and wired with an amp, and it works perfectly with both.

I own two pairs of Airpods Pro 2 and I updated the firmware on one to this new version. I tried both pairs individually, and then one earbud from each pair in my ears at the same time (while putting my thumb on the other buds so that ANC would enable). What I noticed was this: the firmware updated significantly reduced the noise cancellation. External noises were much louder in APP2 pair that had updated to the latest firmware. I tested this on several occasions to make sure, and it is abundantly clear that Apple reduced ANC with this update - perhaps in response to the ANC lawsuit.

This is really bad news for consumers, and means a potential class action suit for Apple.

How's the noice cancellation on the APP2s with this new firmware?
I noticed no difference. It's still absolute blissful silence when I put them on. It's as good as it was before. I'm going to try my APP1 and AP3 now to see if there's any difference.

I really can’t understand how many people say that the ANC is stille the same (or better in some post I’ve read).

Let us know if even the 2nd pair, once automatically upgraded, will have the same effect on anc .

You're likely not reaching the threshold where you would detect the loss in ANC if all you hear is blissful silence. Try making comparisons in a louder environment like I did.

Windows users run from updates, almost like it's a competition of who can hold out the longest from updating.

Meanwhile, Mac users compete (esp on MR) over who can get hit refresh and update the fastest.
Windows has an annoying tendency to automatically reboot at the worst times in order to install updates. You can only postpone them for so long before Windows says, sorry, we're updating whether you want it or not. Typically it wants to do it when I'm in the middle of a game at the most crucial point.

Will do. But I'm hesitant to "upgrade" the firmware on my second APP2 pair due to the partial disabling of ANC on the update.

What's the exact procedure for connection? The only time I can connect AirPods to my Mac is when they are in my ears. But then AFAIK, they won't update outside of the AirPods case.
Open the lid, bring up Control Center and tap on the popup to switch your audio to the AirPods of your choice. I've had better luck leaving the lid open for half an hour or so in order to get the update. I've had it work with the lid closed, but it fails more often than not.

This was released yesterday, at least for the APP2. Curious to see if it improves ANC on AirPods Max after all the publicity.
In my experience, it's made the ANC much worse for the APPP2. I had sent a feedback report to Apple to let them know, but have heard nothing. The original ANC was great, apart from lacking cancellation for the highest frequencies. I've had to wear ear defenders in the gym because of poor speakers playing a radio station at 60db. The ear defenders muffle the sound, and that's great, but it gets hot!. I think Apple should offer an ANC slider, a bit like a volume control, to decide on a personal amount.

Very seldom do I criticize  but this upgrade schema of charging and hoping it works updates (i.e., "Plug and Pray") is really getting old.
It's annoying as heck to people who pay attention to the tech news and see the updates. I suspect Apple did it this way so that it gets updated in the course of people using their AirPods and is a way to get people to update without them knowing or caring.

Personally I don't understand why they can't do it both ways to satisfy both groups. They should have an implicit update (which apparently happened to my AirPods Max that was sitting on a stand next to one of my iPads) and an explicit update mechanism, which every other non-Apple device has. As Brian Tong would say, "That's a bad Apple!"

I went for a bike ride last night and didn't notice any difference in sound or ANC. I was already on the new firmware and nothing to me was changed. I had no issues with the previous firmware, though. I'm getting ready for another bike ride in about 30 mins and will report back if I find any issues but so far, no differences for me after updating.
I found that riding a bike with these is very noisy.

It won't let me update. 😭
It is frustrating. It took me close to two hours to finally get my APP2 to update last night. I plugged it into my MBP, listened on my iPhone for about a minute, then put it back in my case, leaving the lid open and propping it up next to the iPhone. Eventually it did finally update. You just have to be persistent. It's stupid that there's no manual process. I don't mind having an automatic process, but we should have both.

This was wearing them around the house, not just an instant moment in time. I did some cooking, played some YouTube while doing that on occasion, stood next to the very loud ventilation fan. I heard nothing. Microwave was completely silent, though I faintly heard it beeping when it finished. The comment was oriented towards not playing anything and hearing nothing. Often playing something will drown out what the NC couldn't handle, which I suppose is the best metric.

One constant is that the neighbors seem to run either a buzzsaw (They're building a gazebo) or a leaf blower EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR HOURS. It drives me nuts, so I have to wear something to cancel out the noise. Can they give it a rest for even one day? Geez. I can hear the @$#@$#$ leaf blower right now, but I'm not wearing my APP.

I’ve literally never thought of it. Every time I check my firmware it’s the current one, unless it’s like the very day it came out and I’m wading through some forum full of people freaking out about it.

iPhone 11 Pro + AirPods Pro 1Gen
Settings: ANC ON or ANC ON + fixed spacial.

Last two versions (included this):
- worse ANC since around iOS 16 release. This release I think ANC is even worse, more talk around can be heard when not playing audio (idle ANC)
- flatter audio, it’s not as crispy and wide as before. It’s like a less kbps are transmitted or something around range. I worked as a voice editor and I can even hear part of high pitch voices of bark-preventing audio

Damn it’s really like a 3 day pizza, tasty, nutritious but wiped out of freshness.

Edit:
Try yourself:

Settings > Accessibility > AirPods > Audio Accessibility Settings > Headphone Accommodations >
play with slight / moderate between balanced tone and vocal range.

For me something changed in these 2 releases with Spacial Audio fixed setting. Head tracking is as good as before.
Most of scene is flat now and muffled a bit.
Has to go for Vocal + moderate more than slight

Right, but for evaluating the reduced ANC in this new Airpods Pro 2 update, scenarios where you don't hear anything are the worst to test how the extent of which Apple reduced the ANC.

If it still cancels out certain sounds, more power to you. But for the sounds it doesn't cancel out, they're still louder (because of the ANC reduction).

Anyone with APP2 where it will cut out? I walk the dog around the block. When I leave wifi from the house, it seems to mess with the BT on the APP2. When i get back to the house, same thing, soon as wifi connects to the phone, APP2 start to studder or breakup. This is all on 5B58.
