Apple today introduced a new firmware update for AirPods Max. The new firmware is 6A324, up from the 6A300 firmware released in September.

Apple does not provide details on what features might be included in the refreshed firmware, so it is unclear what's new. The limited release notes for the update list only "bug fixes and other improvements."

Apple also does not offer instructions on how to upgrade AirPods software, but firmware is generally installed over-the-air while the ‌‌AirPods‌‌ are powered on and connected to an iOS device or a Mac.

You can check your ‌‌‌AirPods‌‌ Max‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ firmware by following these steps:
  • Connect your ‌‌‌‌‌‌AirPods to your iOS device.
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap About.
  • Tap ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌.
  • Look at the number next to "Firmware Version."
If we find anything notable in the firmware release, we'll update this article.

Fingers crossed the new firmware might address the right cup rumble/squelching noise when ANC is engaged. My APM have been sat idle on account of the problem; out of warranty and not worth the expense of an out of warranty Apple repair (almost the cost of a brand new pair). Figured I'd get back on board with a potential future APM version 2.

Now to try and force an update...

Firmware updates are important. Updates improve the reliability of Airpods max and ensure the best performance and features.

We are so excited to hear what you have been doing with AirPods Max

We have been listening to sounds…

I been thru 3 pairs of AirPods Max due to ear detection failure Apple replaced them each time with AppleCare but I won’t be buying these again they sound great though.
Thats not great…. Were they used in an adverse environment at all? Dust, humidity?

apple always recommend using ios devices to update firmware of accesories over bluetooth.
why can we not use macos too for that ?
why macos is always lagging behind ?

i'd be interested in airpodmax gen2 but only if they add power button, solve condensation problems, add missing codecs and add a jack port. i find it shocking that a 600euros headset doesn't have jack port.

the pattern apple is repeating this last decade is: hurrying release of products that didn't finish proper design and didn't undergo sufficient quality testing. they put it on the market, start the hype, grab money with half cooked unfinished product sold at premium prices.

I really want to get a pair of AirPod Max but it is getting to the stage where they might release a 2nd edition and I don't want to miss out.

How much better are they than the AirPods Pro 2nd gen as an average user?
I expect both will be updated by 2025…

I have both. Airpods Pro 2 when I'm outside, walking, running, etc. But if I want sound quality, Pro 2 doesn't even compare to Max. There's no way you can get this sound from in-ear buds.

It is possible. Just connect them by wire. Fast and easy updates.
