Apple today released new firmware for the Beats Studio Pro over-ear headphones. The Beats Studio Pro can be updated to firmware version 2C301, up from the prior 2B68 firmware that was installed on the headphones at launch.

Today's firmware update introduces support for audio sharing, a feature that was not available at launch. Audio sharing is designed to allow two people to listen to music from an iPhone or iPad.

Apple introduced the Beats Studio Pro headphones just over a year ago, marking an update to the original Studio headphones that made the Beats brand popular. The $350 Beats Studio Pro headphones feature Active Noise Cancellation support, Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking, multiple audio profiles, and improved audio quality with better bass performance compared to prior models.

Apple did not include an Apple audio chip in the Beats Studio Pro, instead opting for a custom Beats chip that provides better feature parity between iOS and Android devices. The Beats chip supports one-touch pairing and setup, Find My integration, and Siri support, but automatic switching between devices is not available.

As with all of Apple's headphone and earbud products, firmware updates for the Beats Studio Pro are delivered over-the-air. Firmware will be installed while the Beats headphones are charging and are in Bluetooth range of an iPhone, iPad, or Mac that's connected to Wi-Fi.

On Android devices, users will need to download the Beats app for Android and connect the Android device to a power outlet to initiate a firmware update. There is no word on what's new in the firmware.

The 2C301 firmware update adds Audio Sharing support to the Studio Pro.

Did they also release a firmware update for the Studio Buds +? When the Solo 4 was released in May, Beats told reviewers that both the Studio Pro and Studio Buds + would be getting a firmware update with Audio Sharing support.

Let’s hope it adds automatic device switching on Apple devices. I will get a pair if this happens.
Honestly, it works better without it. It still pairs with your iCloud account and shows up in the airplay menu for one-tap handoff, and you don’t have to mess with the Bluetooth menu like 3rd party headphones. And because it’s not auto-switching when I’m in a meeting on my laptop and open instagram it doesn’t switch over haha

Somehow I agree to this. I love the switching on my AirPods Pro 2, I where my headphone on specific moments were I don’t want them to switch automaticly. Maybe if it would use an extra tap on the screen of the device it wants to switch to it would be easy. Like in the way a 10 second timer box that auto disappears when you don’t want to switch. Just like my Apple TV show a notification that I can connect to my AirPods with just the press of a button on the remote when I put them in.

Does this update affect audio quality or break other features? I suppose it’ll be forced on me at some point, but in these times, updates always seem to have a downside of some kind.

Does it fix the 'ocean breeze' noise at low volumes?
I was having issues with slight distortion at low volumes with ANC enabled, especially with spoken word content. This might be what you’re talking about? It’s only been a day, but I’m pretty sure it’s been fixed! No distortions issues yet

I am curious, is there a big comp table somewhere on the internet showing all Apple wireless headphones (AirPods and Beats-branded) and indicating which ones have which functionality (automatic device switching, audio sharing, ANC, Spatial Audio, personalized Spatial Audio, Find My, one touch pairing, NFC pairing, tap / pinch controls for play/pause, volume control, Siri, transparency mode, adaptive transparency mode…) and which chips (H1, H2, etc.) are used?

I just had a long back and forth with Apple support and they claim my version A2924 does not support Audio share and there is no version 2C301 for my Beats Studio Pro. This is my first Beats purchase and it is very frustrating the lack of support.

I’m not surprised at all. In my experience Apple Support is not very knowledgeable when it comes to Beats products.

Since Apple still hasn’t updated their own documentation to reflect that the Studio Pro and Studio Buds + now support Audio Sharing, Apple Support agents have no way of knowing this unless they own and use one of these products or closely follow sites like Macrumors or 9to5mac.

Hi, just checking in if you were able to update. I notice my version is also A2924 and I've been waited all day for it to update and I've tried fully resetting it, pairing it with my iPhone and MacBook and no configurations seem to cause it to update.

My assumption was that there was only one version of the Beats Studio Pro - is there anyone else with A2924 model and were able to update to the latest firmware? What's the trick with getting it to update?

Yes, A2924 is the model number of the Studio Pro I own, and it updated automatically within a day or so after the firmware update was released.

Apple Support can only go off of their official documentation, which still hasn’t been updated to reflect that the Studio Buds +, Studio Pro, Solo 4, and Solo Buds all support Audio Sharing on their latest firmware versions.

Your paired Apple devices must be running the latest OS version for your Studio Pros to update automatically.

You can try factory resetting your Studio Pros to see if that will help force them to update.

Your last resort would be to use the Beats app for Android to manually update your Studio Pro (if you own an Android device or have a friend with an Android phone who can help you do this) OR to schedule an appointment with your local Apple Store or AASP to manually update your Beats Studio Pros.
