Same quality but 40% of the performance, in order to "preserve battery life". That's how they do things at Apple. I'm not sure what 40% performance looks like on headphones. Maybe 40% frequency response, or 40% volume?Probably a firmware that downgrades quality and 'forcing' people to upgrade to the new Airpods Pro 2.
Firmware 5B55 is as bad as 5B58 on my AirPods Pro. Voice cancellation specifically is now useless.
The speculation is that Apple had to degrade ANC to avoid settling with Jawbone in their lawsuit.

I have announce messages in my BFP.Why is Announce Messages not available on Beats if they’re Apple products? 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
Confusing! I'm using BFP as well. Works fine with APP2 but not BFP.I have announce messages in my BFP.
It's all tied into Siri. If you have Siri disabled - and/or Hey Siri disabled, or the wrong language for Siri (my wife did - Australian English?!), all sorts of things break. Notably transcribe voicemails (odd), announce notifications, etc.Confusing! I'm using BFP as well. Works fine with APP2 but not BFP.
Reset worked!! Thank you! It's all tied into Siri. If you have Siri disabled - and/or Hey Siri disabled, or the wrong language for Siri (my wife did - Australian English?!), all sorts of things break. Notably transcribe voicemails (odd), announce notifications, etc.
(now if one of your headphones supports it, and the other doesn't, my advice would be to reset the BFP....)
I hate to provide an Apple support doc, but....
Announce Notifications with Siri on AirPods or Beats - Apple Support
