I'll hope for the best.

When I first started using HomePod it was actually pretty good for timers and intercom. For the last 6 months or so, it has been getting worse and worse.

"Hey Siri, intercom everyone come down for dinner." - beep beep beep

Repeat - "Sorry, I don't know how to turn off the lights."

Repeat with angry tone - "I found some web results and can send them to your phone."

Repeat with angrier tone - "Nothing is currently playing."

Repeat with even angrier tone - "Volume set to 40%."

Repeat with even angrier tone - Sent sound effect

Kids show up wondering if they are in trouble.

You'd think over time it would get better if anything since it would learn our voices (that have been setup in Siri on our phones). Yet it struggles with the most basic requests. I wish I was joking about how bad she is, but that has been my family's experience.
Same here. Practically unusable.

Does this support article mean Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) in the "Note:" section?

I have an Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and it's not showing up as a possible hub. Which is fine, as I'm using my HomePod mini's as my hub.

I am currently looking for a speaker I can use with my mac studio; mainly to output zoom call soun while using an external mic. Is this still basically impossible with the homepod mini? I find very diverse answers to that online... :/

Updates went smoothly without any problems and all the playback and disconnect issues with my HomePod mini in my office room are magically gone. Amazing.

Go old skool. wired speakers and mic

The HomePod has so much potential yet Apple treats it as a hobby. I wish it would turn off when I turn on the Apple TV. I wish it would have an EQ. Would be nice to be able to turn down the bass after 9pm. Wish it would start radio when I arrive at home.

Hello everyone.

I´ve just realized that Apple also released IOS 15.7.2 yesterday.

I havent been able to upgrade to the new home app architecture yet because two family members in my home are still using Iphone 7 (and they control accessories, use personal requests and so on).

I was wondering... after the upgrade to 15.7.2 they will be able to see/join a home with the new architecture? (probably not, but...).

The remaining devices in my house are already updated to 16.2/13.1

Thank you in advance.

Is anyone having issues with the new architecture and a household?

I updated, 'Resident (owner)' is fine... My wife, 'Resident', disappeared and couldn't see my Home...

I managed to get her back on, (on her iPad, logging her out from iCloud, me logging in, me logging out, her logging in) but system was non-responsive for her and if I try modifying her settings as the owner I get 'Could not modify user's access'... She removed herself from my Home, but is still listed, so I can't invite again...

So far, so good: streaming to 5 homepod minis and two bose soundtouch 10s, no more random drops and general synching mayhem. Whole setup working as intended is bliss. Only thing on my wishlist would be balance control for stereo pairs, I don't get how such a simple thing was never implemented.

Hoping for meaningful syncing improvements. My main gripe with these are not voice recognition, it is consistent response to the same request. For example I often try to "play this on all speakers" or "play this in the living room too", which works about 50% of the time.

I swear the AI with HomePod appears to be getting dumber and dumber. So frustrating. I ask about the weather in my town and it tells me. I ask about the weather in Athens, Greece and it says it can't do that. WTF!?! It shows up on my iPhone 14 NO PROBLEM!

The weather in Athens is a well guarded secret that can't be disclosed on a HomePod. You can only access that information after face recognition is completed on your phone. It's for your own protection and personal safety.

I can't even start to list the things that drive me nuts with these speakers. Not to mention the sudden loss of sound when you connect them to your Apple TV as TV speakers through the HDMI connection. Yes that feature is still in beta on the Apple TV but just how hard can it possibly be???

"I'm having trouble connecting to the internet"

I can't do this, I can't do that...I'm pretty useless, really. The only thing I can do is play some music occasionally.

Argh.... Enough venting for the day. :)

HomePods are so annoying. Mine won't ever stay in a stereo pair, and if they do get paired, one half is always stuck at twice the volume of the other. It never works smoothly and then they have to be reset to try and pair again.

Then they "can't be found" or go missing from every play option on the PC or phone every couple of days. I gave up with pairing and just use them as two speakers in the same room, which works a bit better. They still vanish every few days though and have to be turned off and on again.

Like lots of modern software, the problem is that there is no feedback about what the problem is. "Cannot be found" is not very helpful when I can see them right in front of me.

Maybe 16.2 will fix some of the causes of these issues, but I'm sure it won't fix them all.

100% accurate.

Since I own just about everything else Apple makes, I decided to try out the HomePod last month. Generally speaking, Apple makes incredible products, but HomePod is the exception for me. It barely works. It sounds "ok." Its only strength is its pleasant nondescript appearance.

That's because the designer was influenced by an "Air Fresher".
