Oh, thanks for the heads-up, I did not know that! I thought you could get the usual 3-year warranty on the refurbs as well. Nope, a machine as user-unserviceable as the iMac is unacceptable without a long warranty.

The refurb return policy is not good, either; how do I know if the refurb item is in sufficiently good condition before I receive it?! If I want to play the lottery, I'll buy a ticket, not a computer.

Thanks to the others for correcting me about Apple Care on refurbs. Prior to posting I couldn't find confirmation on the Apple website, so my apologies for that. Never trust gigantic insects. ;)

Tired of waiting? What's the matter, are you afraid of turning into a cockroach or something? :p

Metamorphosis almost complete, then my end is nigh.

Now that I've waited so long for the new iMacs, there is still a question:

When will they come with a blue-ray drive???
Should I wait?

These drives are no longer expensive, e.g. many SONY notebooks come with BR and are not more expensive than before.

IMO, if they ever do come with the drives it won't be till either the end of this year or mid next year. It seems most here don't think Apple will bother since it cuts into iTunes sales.

The slot-loaders are still expensive, which is what Apple would use. I see prices still around $300 for readers and $1000 for writers.

Surely it's the cost of Blu-ray blanks that's the real issue. £10 for a single blank compare to 50 DVD's. I don't think I'll be rushing to buy them soon.

Obviously there's a huge difference in capacity but for general home use I don't think I'll be tempted for a long while. If money was no option then fair enough but I think it's too high a premium at the moment.

I would be satisfied with just a Blu-ray *player* built into the SuperDrive to be able to watch DVDs.

It's not in Apple's interest to include a Blu Ray player when they are trying to push digital downloads/rentals.

When Apple adopt Blu-Ray they'll focus on its data capacity rather than "you can now play movies we don't sell with this thing!"

Never thought of that!

Would there be a way to get it from there onto the iMac's 24"-Display?

S-video using the eyeTV.

I don't think you can do HDMI into the iMac. It may not be worth it.

Of course I could be wrong and I am sure someone else will correct me.

Won't that transform a HD video into a near-VHS quality?

I would say just get a separate cheap HD display for the PS3.

In a word, no. Blame the lack of inputs on anything Apple. Grab a decent LCD TV, I use a Samsung Le26r74 with HDMI, Component and VGA for Wii, PS3 and a secondary display for Mac
