Apple today seeded a new public beta of the macOS 12 Monterey beta to public beta testers, allowing non-developers to test the new macOS Monterey software ahead of its public release.

Public beta testers can download the macOS 12 Monterey update from the Software Update section of the System Preferences app after installing the proper profile from Apple's beta software website.

macOS Monterey introduces quite a few major updates for the macOS operating system. When released, Universal Control will let a single mouse, trackpad, and keyboard be used across multiple Mac or iPad devices, and it's now possible to AirPlay directly to a Mac from an iPhone, iPad, or even another Mac.

Safari has an updated tab bar and support for Tab Groups to keep tons of tabs organized, and FaceTime now features support for spatial audio, Portrait Mode (M1 Macs only) and Voice Isolation for cutting out background noise. A SharePlay FaceTime feature (coming in a Monterey update) will let Apple TV users watch TV, listen to music, and share their screens with one another.

Shared With You, another new feature, keeps track of the music, links, podcasts, news, and photos that people are sent in Messages, highlighting it in the relevant apps. Notes has a new Quick Note feature for jotting down thoughts, and the Shortcuts app is now available on the Mac.

A dedicated Focus mode helps people stay on task by cutting out background distractions based on what's going on, and there's an updated Maps app with a whole slew of new features. With Live Text, Macs can now detect text in photos or provide details on animals, art, landmarks, plants, and more in images. The new beta adds Live Text support for Intel Macs.

Mail Privacy Protection hides IP and prevents tracking through invisible pixels, and iCloud Private Relay keeps Safari browsing protected. There are many other new features in ‌macOS Monterey‌, with a complete overview available in our macOS Monterey roundup.

I been using b7 since yesterday. Safari browser rending URL pages is improved. The download, and install went well, so if you're a PB tester you should like this beta better.
Apple released a new version of Safari for Big Sur as well. It is faster too. On Speedometer benchmark, its score has gone up from 71 to 81. Nice! However, Chrome's score is 87. Thanks to the competition so that we are getting snappier Safari.

My M1 MacBook Pro just will not find this update at all, on either a developer or public profile.

It says the software is up to date. Anyone know what I can do?
I am assuming you have signed up to be a beta tester. If not, you need to do that.

Try running the update through terminal. Run softwareupdate -l

Yep. I've not had any issues updating every single beta to this point. I've restarted, removed and re-added the beta profile, nothing works.

Just sits there on "Finding available software" and doesn't move.

Hmm, very weird. The only other advice i can immediately think of is to remove, then re enroll your machine in the beta program. You may get offered the full installer instead of the update, so this may increase the amount of time to get updated.

Tried this. Didn't work the first few times, then asked if I want to "download macOS Monterey" - when I say yes, it does ... nothing. No idea what else I could try other than reinstalling macOS from scratch.

No PB in Sweden yet. I have tried both remove beta profile and then reinstall it and using sudo softwareupdate -l in Terminal. Nothing.

Waiting for a final release. Can't release apps using a beta OS/Xcode I think.
Your signature says you develop for mobile. Indeed, Xcode 13 is already released for Big Sur with what you need. All that's missing is the Monterey SDK, which will introduced when Monterey goes to RC (I expect that will be 13.1.)

Is this against the com.apple.MobileSoftwareUpdate.UpdateBrainService acting up? Its associated with software update -> Advanced -> Check for Updates (s/b checked)

Force quit it, then check for software update.

Hi everyone! Does anyone know how performance is affected vs macOS Catalina on an Early 2015 MacBook Pro 8 GB RAM, i5 (don’t remember the GHz; I’ll update as soon as I get home)?
Otherwise than Safari struggling with 30+ tabs, I am pretty happy with Catalina and I don’t know if my day to day activities can be impacted by upgrading the OS (web browsing, spreadsheets, documents…)
Thank you in advance!

Had the same issue with the Developer beta on my MBP...and now today with this Public beta on my iMac. The DP version finally showed up on its own after a couple hours. Hoping the same thing happens with the Public beta.

How do I force quit it? This process doesn't appear in Activity Monitor on my machine anyway.

Trackpad is acting up a bit with this beta. It's hard to explain, but it seems "sticky", especially while scrolling.
