Even that approximately 52% lower price is still a sign of Tim Cook's insatiable corporate greed. When Steve Jobs was CEO, many products came with a free microfiber cloth inside the box. For example:

MacBook Pro (2006–2011)
iMac (Intel-based, 2007–2011)
Power Mac G5
Mac Pro (Early generations)
Apple Cinema Displays
iPhone 1
iPod touch
iPad (1st generation)
iPod Hi-Fi (2006)

But today, thanks to Cook, there are no products that come with a free microfiber cloth. That's because Cook loves to nickel-and-dime customers in order to maximize profits.

And when "greedy" Steve Jobs was CEO, people had to pay for:

Mac OS upgrades
Pages app
Numbers app
Keynote app
GarageBand app
iMovie app
iPhoto app

But today, thanks to Cook, they (or comparable) are all "free."

Steve did give you a free polishing cloth in your iPhone box (and iMac as well if I remember)

I don't remember getting a microfiber cloth with my PowerMac G5. And if I did, Apple was stupid to include one, as the PowerMac G5, like the MacPro, had no monitor. If Tim Cook reversed a policy of shipping a microfiber cloth with headless computers, he made a SMART decision.

Early iPhones did include a cleaning cloth but I believe that was discontinued under Jobs.

My reply was simply to point out that Apple charged for plenty of things during Jobs' tenure that became "free" under Cook.

wait guys until gurman leaks the upcoming touch ID version that comes with a rumored camera and siri intelligence. the $9 will be a weekly subscription.

I’ll need to find my 1st gen (probably in an old laptop bag) but technically the new one is the 3rd gen, not 2nd gen. The iPad Pro with nano screen comes with a polishing cloth that is thinner, more rectangular, and larger than the one that shipped with the Studio Display with nano screen. Perhaps it’s because Apple changed the process for etching the screen with the iPad Pro.

The dimension of the 1st gen polish cloth.
Height, width, depth and weight if possible?

Looks like MacRumors have updated the article stating that the size is the same. 🤣
yes, thank you, MR say it is about the same size but softer

Maybe I will order one just for the heck of it

today's the day!

anyone else waiting for UPS to drop off such a magnificent cloth?!
Just picked mine up at the store. Confirmed that it is the same size as the "Gen 1" (square shaped). It is smaller than the one that comes with the Vision Pro or iPad Pro with Nano. It's similar to the latter, but not quite as thick. BTW, it's folded.

indeed. I never used the previous cloth, but for $9 I said why not? it feels...like a cloth.

pretty happy with it overall. I legit needed a cloth to clean off the screen of my iMac from time to time so this will come in handy.

Just received mine.

The new one's dimensions are as follows.

Length: ~159 mm
Width: ~159 mm
Thickness: ~0.8 mm
Weight: 6.96 g

I did not measure the curved corners. 🤣
