because it works. what do you think the rest of the world does too? What's with Apple's obsession with celebrities?
i noticed they integrated it into apple TV instead of making it standalone. so part of their strategy seems to be to drive and increase usage in apple TV app and sell more movies, subscriptions, and apple tv devices. if traffic can get high enough, they can charge more for placement rights for the premium channels for their placement in it also. point is they are looking at network effect to cover the costs on top of just the subscription fee's is my assumption.I am told that Hollywood financial accounting is … weird. It truly depends on the production costs, plus the royalties. A google search puts Samuel L. Jackson at about $6,200,000 per movie, or 1,550,000 paid subscriptions to pay just for his salary. Jennifer Aniston is at $1,100,000 per episode, or 275,000 paid subscriptions per episode. Add other names such as Reese Whiterspoon or Jason Momoa and the price goes up quite substantially.
This is even before actual production costs (pre-production, director, tech services, post production, CGI etc. and, again, royalties. PLUS the actual service's costs such as servers, programmers, lawyers etc).
I am starting to think that ATV+ is just to sell more devices as a "free" service included with the purchase.
that's why it's basically free for the first year for everyone that buys any device and week free for others. personally i have tv+, netflix, disney+ and prime video. i might cancel my netflix if disney+ original content is reallly good. netflix hasn't had much content i like in months....plus they give you a month free after you quit to try and get you back lol. This looks decent but Apple is going to need a lot more good original content that keeps users hooked to keep up with services like Disney+, Prime Video, and Netflix in order to get a good market share in this highly competitive space.
Check out The Elephant Queen. It, Hala and The Banker are all being released first to theater so they are eligible for the Oscars.Looking forward to this. I always enjoy Samuel Jackson no matter what movie he's in.
I actually didn't realise that Apple would be bringing feature length movies to the party, so this is a pleasant surprise. I'm really enjoying Apple TV+ at the moment and see no likelihood of cancelling any time soon.
What a suprise! Another drama movie from Apple! Apple TV+ - the best medicine if you suffer insomnia.

Really tired of hearing “this isn’t my Apple anymore” crap.Long time ago, Apple used to stand out from “the rest of the world”, being the rebel and the dreamer that doesn’t follow the norms of the mainstream and established culture and tech ideas.
And you’re actually favoring more of what Apple stands for today? Over glorifying soulless celebrities and producing fashion statement products.
Such a shame.

Apple appears to have no interest in licensing third party content. Their thinking seems to be, why rent when you can afford to buy? They are also reportedly buying out the residuals.Apple also needs to license some good third party content that can give the service some more value, similar to Netflix/Hulu/Prime.
Death by a thousand cuts. But your last one is most people’s favourites as the big one for reasons that are obvious. It wasn’t just the fact Jobs died, it was that he chose a soulless hypocritical supply chain beancounter as his successor.Really tired of hearing “this isn’t my Apple anymore” crap.
So just when did Apple sell out? Help me nail it down.
When they sold their first iPod in 2001 or their 400+ millionth this year?
When they sold their first iPhone in 2007 or their 1.5 billionth earlier this year?
Maybe it was dumping moto and hitching their wagon to Intel’s Evil Death Star in 2005
Of course it could have been 2007 when they dropped “Computer” from their name.
Maybe it was buying Beats in 2014?
Maybe it all ended in 2015 with the butterfly keyboard?
The gold Watch in 2015? Was that it?
2019 with the launch of Apple News+, Apple Card, Arcade and/or ATV+ ? Was that it? Did it just happen?
Or maybe it was all over when Jobs died in 2011?
I’m really curious to know when you think the death of your tech counter-culture icon occurred.
Yes, Cook is an empathetic, caring leader that is leading Apple in many good works to make the world a better place. Virtuous people can certainly show up others for the many virtues they themselves lack, and obviously this can be quite upsetting.Death by a thousand cuts. As for this offering, it seems like another case of “let’s throw a couple of well known/liked Hollywood actors at a boringly predictable loosely based on history virtue-signalling script” and hope for the best. This looks like what was euphemistically called in the olden days - a “tv movie” (the irony) or the sort of filler you’ll see littered about inflight entertainment these days.
Yes! It looks awesome to me. I especially like Nick Hoult — but the cast is great and it looks like a ton of fun. This looks good.
Is that title Cockney rhyming slang?
Because it’s all about you… lots of people have watched and enjoyed every one of the shows Apple put up at the weekend. To be honest I think they have a pretty good product on their hands, and the signs are that they’ve got lots of great stuff in the wings.
But for some people they’ll never be happy because they genuinely get their kicks complaining about Apple. Which, I suppose, is great for them, because they can do that for free!

For All Mankind IS sci-fi.
I'd watch it because Anthony Mackie is the man!

i'm hoping they can find some new product visionary leaders as well. i think jony ivy leaving may open up space for that . we'lll see! steve jobs quality leaders don't grow on tree's.Long time ago, Apple used to stand out from “the rest of the world”, being the rebel and the dreamer that doesn’t follow the norms of the mainstream and established culture and tech ideas.
