Yay - choppy HD playback is gone! I can actually watch trailers again from the Quicktime website! I wondered why Apple wasn't addressing all the problems some of us were having with 7.0. I guess they knew they had this up their sleeves...

Still no AC-3 passthrough

Well, this is just lovely. The new QT, or its partner Front Row, is still unable to passthrough AC-3 Dolby Digital 5.1. I tried both a movie with AAC and AC3 (only passed through AAC) and AC3 only and neither would produce 5.1 audio. Looks like Front Row and QuickTime are getting deleted from my hard drive. It's all Plex from now on for me.

Yes, unlike AppleTV, native passthrough still does not work. Though I didn't really expect a 7.5.x update to resolve that.

However, passthrough using Perian has been fixed, which was broken in 7.4.5.

Though, I should also point out that at the time of the 7.4.5 release, Apple introduced a bug that didn't allow m4v (H.264+AC3) files to playback using Perian and that has not been fixed.

man, i just wish they would allow playing of movies with ac3 play natively. i have close to 1 tb of movies ripped on my media center that i would like to stream occasionally to my mac. movies only have ac3 sound. movie plays fine but just no sound to the mac....
i know about vlc, which is what i use, but would love to use front row
