I'm on a Mac Pro 1,1 with the 7300 GT. Ever since installing the 10.6.3 combo update (I went from 10.6.2 -> 10.6.3) I was noticing weird issues with the Dock and window server (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/896327/).

I reinstalled 10.6.3 (the original combo update) with no changes.

I just installed 10.6.3 v1.1 combo update. I was NOT offered it via Software Update, so I'm guessing that it really won't make a difference.

My build did go from 10D573 to 10D578.

I’ve had some issues with the Dock as well in 10.6.3 and a ’09 Mac Pro. However a bigger problem is a flickering second screen which is completely unusable in 10.6.3. I have a 10.6.2 restore running on a secondary disk because the screen works fine in that. Graphics card is Nvidia GT 120. I’m thinking I’ll try this Combo even though it’s supposed to be redundant.

Yep, didn’t help with the flickering secondary screen :(. No surprise there though. Gotta reboot to the restore…

This is only for users who updated directly from 10.6.0 to 10.6.3 using ComboUpdate. If it is not showing in Software Update, then it's not needed.

I upgraded from 10.6.2. to 10.6.3. and I got this last night in my software update.

Hrm, http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1017 no longer works. I get the following message:

"We're sorry.

We can't find the article you're looking for.

Please return to the Apple Support homepage."

The download link still works though

http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1017/en_US/MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.3v1.1.dmg

It still shows up in the search results

http://support.apple.com/downloads#Mac OS X 10.6.3

Kinda weird

Ya, what the crap is going on here Apple??? Why isn't this just in software update if it is for all users? And why is it gone now? What is going on?:eek:

Great observation. I would have missed it. Leads me to think that it needs to be downloaded manually. Any really know?

Er, so this is a fix to the fix which was a fix to Snow Leopard? Apple is becoming more like Microsoft everyday.

I wish. I've never updated my Windows OS only to find out that the update had screwed something up. On OS X, however, numerous people seem to have problems every 2 or 3 updates. I always end up waiting a few days to make sure that there are no major glitches or updates to the updates (as was the case here). So much for "it just works."

You're lucky with the CS3 problem... many people have issues.... my photoshop cannot work at all..... I was kinda pissed....
Hope it fixes it.... fingers crossed.

My CS3 works fine, have never had an issue on my 24" 2.8 iMac with ATi, with any of the updates.

Also, I've NEVER had any problems with updating on any of my machines, ever since the Tiger days.

People will always have problems with updates--even if the update is perfect. There's such a thing as bad RAM, corrupt directory structures, and bad blocks on the hard drive. It's possible for a good update to be laid down corrupt, causing problems, which is where many of the "XXX update killed my machine!" complaints come from.

All of this is matter of your perception from reading a limited number of posts from a few, typically mouthy, loud, and uninformed, online rejects.

Macrumors forums are NO PLACE to get accurate information about Apple software updates. All you will find are people who barely manage to keep their computer running during the day and who button mash and shake the device until it works properly. These are not the people who's "issues" you want to take to heart and blame on Apple.

This is the only thing any of you need to know. Stop pretending like you know more than this, or that all your "guesses" are even somewhat useful.

we had a machine go unusable with CS3 taking a dump yesterday....any do the update and get CS3 working again please post! :)

My Photoshop CS (version 8) works on Leopard but not at all on Snow Leopard.
Has anyone been able to run it on Snow Leopard?

Everyone should apply this update. Even though Software Update didn't show it for me, I installed it anyway just to be safe, and my OS X build number changed from 10D573 to 10D578.

Apparently Software Update can't necessarily tell if you really need this update. I used the Combo updater to go from 10.6.2 to 10.6.3, which according to many posts I've seen, doesn't require the 1.1 update. Yet my build number changed anyway.

It doesn't take long to install and it ensures everyone is on the latest build, so you should install it if you haven't.

Apple’s own documentation says that people who upgraded from 10.6.1 or 10.6.2 don’t need this. And they don’t need the upgrade. Just because the build number is a bit bigger doesn’t mean anything.

Software Update knows just fine if you need this or not. So if it doesn’t offer you this update, stop thinking about it and move on. I installed the 1.1 combo for ***** and giggles as I have a problem with 10.6.3. As I expected, nothing changed, so I’ll just keep booting to the restore until the bug gets fixed.

Ever since the 10.6.3 update on my (high-end) iMac 21.5", my WiFi cuts out intermittently. Anyone else experiencing this? I spoke with a Mac Users Group, and many others claimed they are experiencing the same problem.
