The status bar seems to have gone walkabout. It's still turned on in the View menu but isn't showing up.

Edit: It seems that "status bar" may now be a new term for "popup in bottom left corner that only appears when you hover over a link". It's therefore inconsistent when compared with the status bar in, say, Finder.

For the Alliance ;) Btag=Tiesto#1401

does the 'mute tab' work for someone in Mavericks? I tried several video sites, but don't get any icons on tabs in Safari or address bar similar to EC :(

Enough with the "it's not clear" thing, please!

I think you first mentioned this a few days back and since then it has really been grinding my gears too!

I am now often finding myself putting it in my emails and texts, thanks MacRumors!

It's not clear why they keep doing it..

Something is wrong with my installation. Cache is not working correctly. Colors are off, extensions work unreliably, YouTube suddenly uses HTML5, ... Let's uninstall and try that again.

Edit: Nope. Guess I will deal with it.

It always amazes me how Apple gets it done to change the functionality of their web-inspector each year.

New (full) version of Safari and BOOM, the entire Safari web-inspector has been reorganized and changed in functionality. Sometimes, my thoughts are that Apple is really trying to push all web developers to use Google Chrome as their web development tool and they only want to create a Safari browser for people that only use a browser to surf the web on a Mac, iPhone and iPad.

Although, it looks like Safari 9 is way better in performance than version 8 was but the things behind the screen is plain awful. Normally I used a view with: | File | Source code | CSS styles | all nicely aligned. Now the files view/column is in an entire separated tab view and when clicking on it once and refreshing the browser the inspector automatically switches back to the Files tab. Grrrrr....

get a new computer.
Sound reasonable, let find out what a base system would cost.

Just finished shopping on the Apple Store. To purchase an equivalent Mac Pro system that matches what I have now with speed, memory, disk and display it would only cost me $6015.95!
All so I can run iOS 9? Unacceptable!
I do not want to buy a lesser system like a Mac mini 1.4 because I'm concerned they will do the same thing to me as my G5, Mac Pro, iMac where they say they are no longer releasing an operating system.
I need to seriously look at moving to Windows 10 on my existing 64 bit system.

In regards to mac pro...get the refurbished...if you are planning to get mac still..otherwise...yes..you would need windows.

One thing I don't like, and one I do, now that I've used it.

Don't like the new status bar. There is no space at the bottom that is a status bar, it just appears superimposed on the bottom of your page, when there is something to show, so it is appearing and disappearing, and covering up part of the page content when it does. Very distracting and annoying.

Do like:
I have bookmarks (for this forum, for example), where I have the five or so forums I read regularly all bookmarked and in a separate folder in bookmarks. For a folder like that, there is always the option to "Open in New Tabs", and that will open all five forums at once, each in its own tab. It is how I like to browse a forum like this that I read regularly. In the old Safari, when you did that, it wiped out any existing tabs you may have had open. Bad. The new version keeps the already-open tabs, and adds the new ones to the tab bar. Good.

I've been pricing some Mac Pro 3,1 and 4,1 models starting at $699, that way I can transfer my disk array. I doubt the memory is transferable so I'm in a boat load of hurt to get it back to 32 gb but the display and software should still work... s.w. maybe not with E.C.
Anybody know a good source for these models? Ebay is too risky and forget craigslist, not interested in going to meet someone in baltimore.

And it still cannot sort "bookmarks". C'mon Apple, no one in the Safari grpoup can code a "sort"?

Good luck with W10.

Check out used Mac Pros at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Apple-Systems/Used/Mac-Pro - 32GB '09 model (4,1) for $1549.

I just updated Safari to 9.0 (under Mac OS X 10.10.5 - work won't let me update to 10.11 yet). And now Safari is taking up "244%" of the CPU and such numbers. I tried disabling all extensions and that didn't help. Is anyone else seeing this? When I first launch Safari it's OK, but before long the CPU usage spikes and the fan starts running. Frustrating.

Where are the security updates for Mavericks and Yosemite? I won't upgrade bevor at least 10.11.3 is released and confirmed to be stable.

That's a whole lot of $$ just to be able to use a new OS.. in my mind buying a mac-pro like you did the first time should mean you at least get security updates Or the ability to upgrade OS..

If i was you i would look in to Linux instead of Windows10 ...Perhaps go easy and pick ubuntu or Linux Mint..
There is a whole lot being done on Linux gaming and productivity tools is great on Linux..
Considering the horse power you already have. Linux will feel like your riding a formula one race car..
But Like a formula one race car ..There is little hand holding inside the os..For that kind of help you will need the community ..Thank god there is a "how to " for pretty much any thing you want to do..

i own a Macbook Pro 15-inch Core i7 Mid 2012. I went for this model instead of the first retina because i wanted to be able to upgrade the mem, and storage. So i did..
But my next rig will be a self build Mac-pro (old stile ) running Linux..

PS.. i have the option to update to "OSX El Capitan" But i'm still running Mavericks because i'm happy with it and don't like the new Siri settings and continue to work on all device feature ..Because even drafts that are unsaved get synced to the cloud.. i live in the EU and i like my privacy thank you very much ..
(that's just my two cents)

Maybe too late for this thread but I'm running Safari 9 on 10.9.5. I noticed the iMacs fans kicked up and I'm running nothing else of consequence. Fired up Activity Monitor and I see that "Safari Web Content" is using 106% of the CPU (thus the fans).

Quit Safari and the activity falls to almost nothing. If I wait just a while the fans go silent.

Test again: same result. Safari 9 is demanding a lot of CPU.

So, I tried rebooting to clear everything out. Opened Safari 9 and went to the simplest of sites: craigslist (no ads, no video, just bland HTML). Checked Activity Monitor: Safari Web Content 105% of CPU.

Any suggestions? Is this a Safari 9 bug?

Mavericks user here getting more and more frustrated by Apple's ignorance to fix bug preventing Safari playing 1080p YouTube content... I loved Safari and hardly used any other browsers, but with fast connection and watching more YouTube content (got faster connection at home recently), this issue is becoming quite painful and forces me to use Chrome more than I would like to
