Alongside the second macOS Ventura 13.3 beta that came out this week, Apple has provided a new beta of the 16.4 firmware that's designed for the Studio Display. The beta comes two weeks after the first 16.4 firmware beta, which was released on February 17.

All Studio Display models are able to receive over-the-air firmware updates, but this firmware update is limited to Macs that are running the macOS Ventura 13.3 beta at the current time. Studio Display owners running macOS Ventura 13.3 can go to System Settings > Software Update to install the firmware.

Apple has not provided details on what's included in the firmware update.

I'm a very happy studio display owner, but I sometimes feel uneasy about it getting regular software updates on the iOS release cadence. Seems like more opportunity for things to get worse compared to just having built-in firmware that only gets upgraded for urgent bug fixes.

I am awaiting a refund on my Studio Display after having three power supply failures. I bought mine last August and have spent most of my time with it getting it repaired or putting up with a loud, intermittent electric buzz. Looking forward to an upgraded/improved version and I'll purchase that.

Still adjusting to the reality that is monitor firmware updates.

I haven't had an Apple-banded external display since they were called Cinema Displays (pairs with my first self-funded Mac, a Graphite G4). To date, one of my better panels. Would love to see them offer something a regular person could acquire. 🤪
Hard to believe but times have changed. We have MagSafe to USB-C adapter cable receiving a software update. All done without you knowing.
