Why would you download the ones that ship with Snow Leopard? Are they also useful to non-Snow Leopard users?

(My printers are all supported already :) )

If they are going for "download-as-you-need" drivers in SL, I wonder why they still group the whole manufacturer together, rather than split them into sub-packages too? So if I need to install one HP printer, I have to install all the HP drivers at 350+ MB...

ok this sucks...

i have an HP DeskJet 3930 and the Drivers in the list are not supported...

D***

I have an almost 5 year old HP PSC 1350 all-in-one printer and it looks like it's not supported. Does this mean that I can't use the printer with Snow Leopard??? Suck.

You Can't Install Them Without Snow Leopard So What's The Point?

What good are these driver installers to us now when we can't install them without Snow Leopard installed and they come with it?

My copy is shipped and it's being delivered tomorrow morning Standard FedEx. :)

Strange, I have an Epson RX620 and in SL now I have the ability to scan whereas before I didnt although in these docs it says I would just be able to print.
This is with the stock SL printer drivers.

So these drivers won't support the FAX any Canon MX printers?

Hope Canon get suitable drivers out soon.

I have an MX860? (it's the wifes) on WiFi and in SL printer Pref Pane, it found both the printer and the Fax. I haven't tried it though. My HP also added without effort.

It might seem like a weird thing to release downloads of printer drivers that are included with SL anyway, but this is a very good idea - say you have your mac at work or school or somewhere and you need to print out to someone else's printer, you can just go online and grab the right driver for it.

As I discovered today setting up a system for someone, you can do later installs of some iLife stuff (Garageband instruments etc) without the disc too for such occassions, in case you don't want to fill your mac up with big files that you might never need, but then turn out to actually need after all :)

Slightly off topic: Personally I think we're seeing a lot of stuff that points to Apple getting ready for a tablet that runs a full version of OS X on a smallish SSD-based drive. (Hope so anyway!). The guys on the latest MacBreak Weekly podcast had a speculative conversation that was in this kind of direction without exactly getting to my guess, it would seem to make sense that all this streamlining and space-saving is with something in mind, even if it only turns out to be a standard config of an SSD in a MacBook Air or something.

It may also be worth noting that people (like myself) who have been using older Apple printers over AppleTalk are no longer given that option anymore. So ya, that kinda sucks.

Does anyone here have a Kodak All-In-One printer and know if it will work with 10.6? I have the software and drivers installed for 10.5.8 and it works great. I have 10.6 coming in the mail, but I won't install it if it is going to break my printer. I guess if the drivers are different I am just going to have to wait on Kodak to update the software.

Canon has always sucked on Mac drivers so don't hold your breath...

So... finally AppleTalk is dead?

That's nice and all, but I prefer to go straight to HP and download the one driver that I need. If I need to print somewhere else, I'll likely need a few different manufacturers' drivers anyway, so I see no need to waste a gig on drivers.
