The top search result for "snow leopard officejet", http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=snow+leopard+officejet&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 says the Officejet 5600 seeries is supported, but after choosing download and install, and accepting the license agreement, the download can't find the driver.

Has anyone had similar problems?

Here's the scoop. After hours trying and retrying the HP driver. I did what HP told us NOT to do. I just could NOT go weeks without printing capability.

I went to HP and re-downloaded the HP driver set for the 5600 series that is for leopard. After the 120+ file downloads, I mounted it and installed. wala! the printer is back and it works fine. Apparently the problem is with Snow Leopard. Here's a link for you to use for the 5600 series driver:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=219&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=441125&lang=en

then select the first driver under the 'info file' for 10.6.

Once you've downloaded the package file, double-click to mount and install. You shouldn't even have to reboot. I didn't. The printer will show up in your print & fax list. Select it as your default and you should be done. :)

All sorted :) :) :)

HOLY CRAP THIS ACTUALLY WORKED FOR MY HP PRINTER!!! i have a deskjet 3930 OMG thank you so much whoever found this out!!!

Hmmmm. I've managed to get my HP 2710 all in one printer to print "normally", but my scanner will only scan something through the system preferences "print fax" icon. Trying to scan using the HP software I just keep getting a "Sorry, scanner not initialized - scanner not found" message... Will hound HP and see what I can come up with.

Old postscript print drivers

Won't work at all, or might not work?

I've got a large format laser I'd hate to have to replace

I've got an HP PSC 2510, and I just lost scanning capability. Prints fine, just can't scan.

Don't really want to replace this, I wonder what options I have? Is there a compatibility mode or something?

Got the same problem with HP Photosmart all in one C4280 no help from HP. Before when this happened it was a firmware problem with the printer/scanner part on HP. They haven't upgraded there firmware for the printers yet.

If they are going for "download-as-you-need" drivers in SL, I wonder why they still group the whole manufacturer together, rather than split them into sub-packages too? So if I need to install one HP printer, I have to install all the HP drivers at 350+ MB...
A lot of people are more concerned with convenience than disk space. Having to figure out which individual drivers to download would be more of a bother, even it would be more efficient.

I have a HP Scanjet 3570c scanner that HP only has drivers available for Tiger. I downloaded it anyway and it works just fine in SL. Maybe some older printer drivers might just work in SL. Just a thought. MC

Great, the HP site says that the Snow Leopard drivers for my HP Deskjet D1470 are on the SL disc or can be downloaded from Apple, but Apple don't list the D1400 series as compatible.

It's only a cheap printer that I use for quick and dirty prints, but looks like I'm now going to have to connect it to my old PPC Mac mini running Leopard and share it if I want to print to it from my SL Macs.

Anyone got a Officejet 7410 printing? Does the above post about the 5600 work for 7410 as well?

It may also be worth noting that people (like myself) who have been using older Apple printers over AppleTalk are no longer given that option anymore. So ya, that kinda sucks.

What...? So my extremely trusty and reliable Laserwriter 8500 won't work under SL? Do I need to buy an old mac to serve as a print server or something now?

"Hello all,

Scanning is fully supported in Snow Leopard with the Photosmart C4280, sorry for the confusion about scanning. The scan software is now included in Snow Leopard, you don't want to use the older HP Scan Pro software.

Please reference this HP Support doc for info about scanning directly from Preview or Image Capture applications.

Printer prints all day long. Printer does copies all day long. Printer won't scan after S. Leopard update. Scanned right before update. Won't now. It's still a problem with hp.

After several long days and the fact that I can't read and pay attention to NOTES: in blue and words in general. I've reread the doc and deleted all the HP Software. Can scan now. You are correct. Once again it pays to read before you type.

Deskjet 4200 series scanning problems under Snow Leopard

Bingo! I was looking in my applications folder (with a view to deleting the HP applications to see if that would solve the problem), and a found a program called HP Scan. I've never seen it before, though whether it's been there since I installed the printer two years ago or only in the half hour since I installed the latest versions of the HP software, I've no idea. Anyhow, it works! :D

Really bizarre - there's no mention of this program on the HP support site.
