Ordered mine today. Can't wait.

One question -- where can I found specs that show the panel that is in this monitor VS the panel that is used for the iMac. I've heard from someplace that the display is superior to the one found in the iMac. Is this true?

One thing I'm mad about (kinda related) is that Apple is not updating the display for the 27in imac to accept 1080p video. this sucks because the only formats the EDID accepts is 720p and the native 1440p. i mean come on, it should be able to accept 1080p. i have already sent some concern requests for them to update it but I'm still hoping for the best.

What's the difference? Whether the display has a 1080p mode, or you play 1080p content upressed for 1440p, it's going to look the same.

Adjusting the resolution for 1080p doesn't make your content look any sharper.

I'm confused by that settings dialog. Are they saying you have a choice to do audio either over displayport or over USB? Or do you have to do it over displayport?

Oh, I can download 75 MB in about 15 seconds. I just think it's ridiculously large for MONITOR SUPPORT. That's some serious bloat right there.

No, thats actually about average for professional display drivers + Audio Driver updates + Sensor UPdates + Color Profiles.

This isn't some $250 generic VESA display where plug-n-play drivers will suffice.

No way to know until it ships. A screenshot doesn't really tell us very much, but I suppose it is possible. I would imagine they might include the USB audio stuff just because of older Macs that don't support audio over DisplayPort.

LED Cinema Display Software Update weighs in at 75.79 MB

Did I mention that updates and downloads are ones and zeros and have no actual weight. MB actually refers to the number of ones and zeros in groups of eight.

Numbers don't actually weigh anything, so you probably shouldn't write this same trite phrase every time you want to mention how big a file is.

I'm just saying, that's all.

... seriously?

27 inch being shipped to me

I just got an email that fedex will be delivering me the new 27inch monitor. The good news is I'm getting it tomorrow, the bad news is the new mac pro that I ordered hasn't shipped yet, so I won't have a place to plug it in.

I'll take some pictures of the packaging.

lmao who cares

Oh really. Does this package contain display drivers? How are those display drivers different from the ones released last month? If they are different, why aren't we all getting them?

All this should contain are sensor drivers, audio drivers, and colour profiles. Those, all together, should not take very much at all.

display drivers != graphics drivers

Do you know how a monitor works? It receives a digital signal (in this case) encoded in a very specific, standardized way, and it translates that into what it shows.

No drivers on the host machine are needed for that.

"Drivers" for a monitor tells the computer what resolutions and frequencies it operates at, and what its colour space is.

As long as we're gonna have a nerd fight, allow me to remind everyone that there are eight bits to a byte, but there are 1024 bytes to a kilobyte, and 1024 kilobytes to a megabyte. So what you said about groups of eight doesn't really make sense, at least when you get out of the kilobyte level.

For those interested, hard drive manufacturers (and now Mac OS X with Snow Leopard) count 1000 bytes to a kilobyte, which is done by counting a kilobyte as 10^3, while the counting system I first mentioned is 2^10.

Giant corporation has only one expensive computer monitor model for sale.
Unbelievable.

Boo Hoo?

What, there isn't enough monitors for sale for you? Or does it have to have the shiny apple logo on it to be good enough?

To be fair 1000 bytes to a kilobyte is only used as a marketing thing and operating systems and download sizes listed on websites, like the one this topic is talking about would be using 1024 so I'm not quite sure what that has to do with anything but then I'm not sure what the point of the other person bringing this up was either.

Anyways, I ordered mine in Canada the same day they were released, anyone know or have any idea how long it takes after the US orders start shipping before the Canadian ones do or at least an estimate, maybe based off of previous things that have been pre-ordered or shipped from Apple before?

i dont think you understand my dilemma here. the 27 inch imac is the only imac that can accept minidisplayport signal input and present it on the screen like a tv. for example, i have the ps3 and i have hdmi going to the minidisplayport on the back of the imac, the only video option im stuck with is 720p and the native 1440p (the ps3 doesn't even support that). i am frustrated to the fact that they can't update it to support 1080p input. because my blu-rays or even the ps3 would looks amazingly awesome on the imac.
