There are services that a government provides, and should provide that are worth the damage that they do to economic freedoms. Governments have long ago exceeded the scope of those services.
And who determines what that "fair share" is? Because the laws have become so convoluted that it's nearly impossible to really know what a particular corporation pays. Apple is not breaking any law, and until a more fair and common sense system is put in place their "fair share" is what they pay now.
They're in the hole for the same reason that a family making $120K a year who has trouble making their mortgage is in the hole: They spend too much, and live beyond their means. Social services are all well and good, but they're not perpetual motion machines (in case you flunked science, perpetual motion is impossible).
You enjoy your tax and spend culture over there. I, personally would rather live in a society that constantly keeps government in check, and tries to make them accountable for their actions. Viewing bureaucrats and career politicians with a cynical eye is the only way to do this. I give much more credibility to anyone who actually produces wealth than to someone who only tries to redistribute it.
