Apple today released tvOS 14.0.2, the second update to the tvOS 14 operating system that was released on September 16. tvOS 14.0.2 comes a week and a half after the launch of tvOS 14.0.1, another bug fix update.

tvOS 14.0.2, a free update, can be downloaded over the air through the Settings app on the ‌Apple TV‌ by going to System > Software Update. ‌Apple TV‌ owners who have automatic software updates enabled will be upgraded to tvOS 14.0.2 automatically.

Apple does not provide detailed release notes for its tvOS updates, so we may not be able to determine what's new in the software. Apple provides tvOS notes through a tvOS support document, but information is often limited. With tvOS 14.0.1, for example, Apple said nothing more than the update "includes general performance and stability improvements."

The main tvOS 14 update introduced Picture in Picture outside of the Apple TV app, introduced audio sharing features for connecting two sets of AirPods or Beats, added new HomeKit capabilities, and expanded game controller support and multiuser gaming options. iOS 14 broke the Udemy app, I always hope any new update will fix it.

On the Udemy side, they discontinued the tvOS app. It was the only device that made watching courses enjoyable 😒 (even though the app lacked a lot of functionality)

I'm glad I have two iOS devices, I can watch my courses on iPad and take my notes on iPhone. AirPlay is also broken in this app, so watching it on my TV is completely impossible.

I always hope that they will add more universal IR remote functionality. I personally like the siri remote (with a case to help prevent picking it up the wrong way) but the rest of my family hates and refuses to use the siri remote.

Because some of the functionality, like swiping away a misbehaving app, user switching, etc will only work with the siri remote (as far as I know) they really don't use those features. My up next then gets clogged with kids shows, and I get interrupted because the apple tv app keep quitting at launch to fix it.

I hope this fixes the screensaver issues that they fixed a while back and then promptly broke again with one of the last two or three updates. When I choose photos from Home Sharing as my screensaver, more often than not I get a blank screen when the screensaver kicks in.

I’m hoping this resolves the constant AirPlay / BT issues I’ve been experiencing ever since iOS 14 came out, namely with AirPlaying YouTube from my phone to the Apple TV. YouTube has had plenty of updates, so I doubt it’s anything to do with the app.

At least now I know I'm not the only one...
I filed a ticket for support, and basically this is the discussion we had :

Me : "The tvOS app crashes on app start."
Them : "The tvOS app is now deprecated. You have to use AirPlay."
Me : "Yeah, but the AirPlay implementation in Udemy is a disaster here, it flickers for a second and then it disconnects right away."
Them : "Oh, but we haven't finished implementing AirPlay."

The previous iOS 14 pretty much made my two Gen. 2, and Gen. 3 unstable. Intermittent access to multiple applications with "service not available try later messages". Re-boots don't seem to fix them. It is all off and on again, even with Apple's apps. This is getting old Apple.

It's ridiculous that spatial audio feature on AirPods Pro cannot be used with Apple TV.

I get that gyroscope is required for head movement compensation, but not providing surround sound enhancement is just short sighted.
