I seem to be in a very small minority of people using HomeKit / Home App, but I'm finding I'm not getting my camera notifications unless I'm on WIFI (any WIFI, not just my home WIFI). If on cellular, no notifications that someone is breaking into my house. BUT, as soon as I get on ANY WIFI, the notifications pop up. I guess better late than never!

Since my ATV4K is my HomeKit hub, maybe this update will fix that.

YouTube 4k still messed up
I can confirm that YT 4k is still not working on my 4K Apple TV. Latest TVOS 14.0.2, and latest YouTube app update. I tried this time with just a plain 4K video from Pro Art Inc (the nature videos) and still only plays at 1080p, not even an option to manually set to 4k quality. Beyond that, not a lot of problems with TVOS 14x for me. The only one I've had was Netflix playing in stereo, but they issued an update, and that's resolved now. So, at this point for me, it's just YT not playing in 4k. I probably shouldn't even bother worrying about that though because I have other devices it works just fine on, and they're just as quick and easy to use as the Apple TV.

How do you 'force' iOS to update (iphone XS). I have automatic updates on but it isn't showing up.
FYI I have had issues with Airplay videos from the iphone's browser to the Apple TV it will start to play but then stop and not play when the iphone display 'sleeps'. So I'm hoping that the 14.0.2 update will fix this. (i already updated the Apple TV to 14.0.2 but not the phone, and at this time the phone doesn't even 'SEE' the Apple TV!)

I’m hoping this resolves the constant AirPlay / BT issues I’ve been experiencing ever since iOS 14 came out, namely with AirPlaying YouTube from my phone to the Apple TV. YouTube has had plenty of updates, so I doubt it’s anything to do with the app.

I’ve also been experiencing AirPlay issues to the Apple TV with YouTube on iPhone and iPad, via the app or Safari. All other AirPlay-able apps I have are working without issue. All devices were on their respective 14.0.1.

I tried this on 14.0.1 and it did not work
It didn't work at first for me either if you recall, but I uninstalled the app, reinstalled same Youtube version and power cycled and came back 5 hours later to find it was now working in 4K, and it still has been every time I exercise the app. Use the beta agreement tactic and install the latest 14.2 beta, it's stable.

Apple TV app is still a dumpster fire of bugs.

STILL won’t load libraries of considerable size. Still loses track of purchases. Up Next doesn’t work for Box Series.

It’s been this way for years. Clearly Apple doesn’t care about their best customers or quality software.

Lots of apps and OS tweaks receive the generic update description of "general performance and stability improvements."

Go look at YouTube updates from Google if you want even less information. :D
Yes I know, and that should also not be allowed. Users want to know about bug fixes and new featuresd.

It seams like a staged rollout of 4k to apple tv from youtubes side, I've had tt for 1week+ now, but I also opted to go for the tvOS 14.2 beta so it might be more things in play here

Google told me on Twitter that the feature will work on all tvOS 14 versions, not limited to 14.2 and beyond.

I'd like to have my HomePods work properly. Currently my stereo pair randomly disconnect, get out of sync and create an echo, or one of the channels will just come out all garbled (using Netflix/Hulu/Plex). Still no audible clicks when you navigate is annoying as well. On the 14.2 beta.

It's ridiculous that spatial audio feature on AirPods Pro cannot be used with Apple TV.

I get that gyroscope is required for head movement compensation, but not providing surround sound enhancement is just short sighted.

And you really don't even need the gyroscope. For instance, I just put my iPad up on a stand, where it doesn't move, and spacial audio works when I turn my head...and you get a "surround sound" effect too. I can't see why they can't do that with AppleTV.

It's weird though, when I get up to go into the kitchen and leave my iPad on the stand, the spacial audio still follows me, and acts like the sounds i always coming from "that direction". For instance, if I set my ipad down while I'm facing east, it feels like the sound is coming from the east where the iPad is sitting. Yet, when I go into the other part of the house, like going into the kitchen for something, it still feels like the sound is coming "from the east", even though the iPad is sitting in the other room and absolutely not "east" of me.

It's hard to explain, but it's kind of weird.

Why does MR always refer to bug fixes as ‘free update’?

Many years ago, I filed a bug against a Microsoft product (Microsoft Macro Assembler). They verified the bug (it was a significant bug in the math coprocessor functionality) and said they'd let me know when the fix was ready.

About a year later, I was notified that the bug had been fixed... as part of the next major update of the product. To get the fix, I was told to buy the update.

terrible business. Very anti consumer and I guess I’m just curious why MR would actively play that PR game for Apple.

I write software for a living and we call them patches. I wouldn’t hire someone who calls a bug fix or patch a free update as they are clearly not serious programmers/devs.
