Apple today released tvOS 15.1.1, a minor update to the tvOS operating system that first launched in September 2021. The tvOS 15.1.1 update comes one week after the launch of tvOS 15.1, software that brought SharePlay support to the Apple TV.

tvOS 15.1.1 can be downloaded over the air through the Settings app on the Apple TV by going to System > Software Update. ‌‌‌‌Apple TV‌‌‌‌ owners who have automatic software updates enabled will be upgraded to tvOS 15.1.1 automatically.

Apple's tvOS updates are typically minor in scale, focusing on under-the-hood bug fixes, performance updates, and small tweaks rather than major outward-facing changes. According to Apple's tvOS support document, today's update brings the TV app, Siri, and the App Store to South Korea as the Apple TV recently launched in the country.

I am on the 15.2 beta and for the first time I am getting the dolby vision badge on the screen - (Visio 75”) the only issue is that now all videos are listed as HD (when I shoot everything in 4K)

There has been a bug in Dolby Atmos for Spatial Audio since tvOS 15.0 that this doesn’t fix unfortunately. Atmos tracks will start playing out of only one or two channels. The fix is to seek within the track and the audio corrects itself, but frequently it will happen again when the next track plays.

After being such an advocate for ATV hardware. Buying every version. Coming on this site defending it. After the latest fiascos? Dolby Vision black crush issue, Atmos sound issues, promised 120hz VRR and then to find out the hardware can't even do it. Making this latest ATV just a REMOTE upgrade. (yes I know it has a faster CPU but its not that noticeable) I tossed it in the trash. Well, to be clear. I set it on fire and then tossed it in the trash. I then walked over to Apple's software division and put their hat on. The ATV+ app on LG TVs are wonderful. At least 2020+ model TVs with a zippy enough CPU. No Dolby Vision black crush issues, Atmos has been flawless, lip-sync is far tighter. Gives me mostly all I wanted from the ATV.

Hopefully fixes the ATV+ next episode bug for me, doesn’t show the next episode. Shows ok on iPhone/iPad app. Was ok prior to 15.1 I think.

I hope they fix the issue with the new Apple Remote not connecting for 20-30 seconds after rebooting or not waking up. I’ve had to use my iPhone as the remote until it reestablished connection. There’s a thread on it in the Apple TV sub forum.

Not sure if this is an issue with the remote or tvOS, but this has been a constant issue with the 2.5 week old 2021 Apple TV 4K (2nd gen) with aluminum remote.

Just click any key (such as the on/off or volume keys) on the remote and it will connect within seconds.

Does this fix HomeKit? iOS 15 broke my whole house.

I was hoping today's 15.1.1 release would include some HomeKit bug fixes. But since they seem to have pulled iOS 15.1.1 pretty quickly and no audioOS 15.1.1 came out for HomePods, I'm going to guess there's nothing HomeKit related in here.

Thanks xpxp2002 I realized after posting, this was only for Apple TV and not for audioOS. I’m new to the whole HomePod thing lol I only learned yesterday they had their own audioOS. I need HomeKit fixed iOS 15 broke everything.

Nope, it still took a minute or so after updating to 15.1.1 before my 2021 remote started working again.

Nope, that doesn’t happen with my 2021 remote. It is unconnected for up to a minute, and clicking buttons doesn’t help.

It might not be related to 15.1.1, but Philo is no longer crashing every few minutes. The Philo app started crashing a few weeks ago and was getting worse. 15.1 didn’t help, nor did the first Philo app update. But with the release of 15.1.1 and another Philo update the crashing seems to have stopped. I’ll know more tomorrow after I test it for a day or so. There could have been a change in 15.x that Philo didn’t handle very well until today. At any rate the fault was probably Philo’s as their app has always had issues.

I haven't experienced Homekit bugs after "upgrading" to tvOS 15 but then realised I had disabled the ATV as a Home Hub some time ago. A Homepod is my hub. Based on your comments I won't be in a hurry to enable the ATV again.
Note that the iOS Home app will list the devices available as a Home Hub and their status. With recent changes to the app it is not easy to show the list: Press & hold the Home icon (picture of a house), select Home Settings, swipe to and select Hubs & Bridges. Unfortunately you cannot manage the devices from this list.

Hopefully (but not holding my breath) it addresses the fact that "My Computer" Photo libraries either take many many minutes to load, or never load at all. That's new behavior.
I have nearly 1,500 movies and tv shows but the Apple TV App Library shows none of them. Says I have no purchased TV shows or movies. The standalone movies and TV apps show all my purchases though. Been broken for months. Clearly Apple has no interest in fixing it.

So I’ve stopped using my Apple TV and now use the Apple TV app on my smart TV

What do you mean a flash? What are you trying to do when this happens?

Edit: I don't know if this is what you meant, but I just updated to the 15.2 beta and for the FIRST TIME EVER Footage I shot on my iPhone 12 Pro and 13 Pro in Dolby Vision actually triggers the Dolby Vision badge on my LG C8. I'm kind of dumbfounded as I have been waiting for this for over a year for that to work.

Now of course there is a catch. I only get it to work with viewing videos from the Apple TV photos app. If I try to AirPlay Dolby Vision from my phone, it still only shows up in SDR. Ah well, at least there is ONE way I can actually watch the videos in Dolby Vision on my TV finally...

I have the same issue due to Apple’s woeful parental controls and I’m certain they will never bother fixing it:
If an episode played has a higher content rating than what’s set in the “General > Restrictions > Allowed Content - TV Shows” then it lets you play it but never marks it as ‘Watched’.

So then the next episode never gets queued up, and it just keeps offering the already-watched episode as Up Next. (To get it around it I have to open the TV app on an iPad and long-push to mark the episode as Watched. ?‍♂️ )

I want Apple to finally release a fix for the Movie and the TV apps. My issues are:

  • These 2 apps after being selected will often display a spinning wheel and after a long wait (ten seconds or more) respond as expected or as is the usual case will not respond at all. I have to restart the ATV several times a day because the performance quickly degrades after restarts.
  • When selecting a movie from a list there is always a delay of at least 5 seconds while a spinning wheel spins, then the selected movie info finally displays. Why this enforced delay? My ATV 2 would instantly display the movie page, but the newest ATV systems are annoyingly, ponderously slow.
I am surprised that I have not seen anyone else mention these discrepancies.
