Apple today released a tvOS 16.1.1 update, which is available for the third-generation Apple TV 4K. Apple says that the update fixes an issue that could cause the Apple TV to be unable to install apps.

The third-generation Apple TV 4K was released in early November, and this update is only available for the new models. It is likely that this bug fix addresses the issue that could cause 128GB Apple TV 4K owners to see a warning that they had run out of storage when using just 64GB.

The tvOS 16.1.1 update can be downloaded over the air through the Settings app on the ‌‌‌‌‌Apple TV‌‌‌‌‌ by going to System -> Software Update. ‌‌‌‌‌Apple TV‌‌‌‌‌ owners who have automatic software updates turned on will be upgraded to ‌tvOS 16.1.1 automatically.

I guessing this fix is also incorporated into the new 16.2 beta 3 build that was released as a PB today? Anyone got a good test for that on a 128GB Apple TV 4K?

Rumors nobody cares about: 128GB Apple TV option

Apple: WE MUST BE SO SECRETIVE that hardware can't even talk to software to give them a heads up that we're doing a 128GB version and they need to make sure they account for that and test it fully

Even though that sounds like a joke, Apple is well known to compartmentalize its projects to avoid leaks. It still could be just a opps we forgot to verify the 16.1 public build supports that. :D

Is it weird that I have no fear running the beta's on my phone/laptop, but wouldn't dare run it on the appleTV? Maybe it is because I have a few devices in the chain and it would be harder to pinpoint an issue. I just can't do it.

I know that’s how they operate, I was being fully serious, lol. My post was a “this is probably how it went down” assessment based on what I know about how the company works internally. Only Apple would even care to lock down a leak of something as mundane as a 128GB Apple TV to the point where you can’t even use the 128GB fully because they didn’t test it.

When I had a software testing job testing this new feature (128g) would 100% have been on the test schedule. So hard to believe that this one slipped through.

Maybe they can find a way to fix the shared audio bug with the new AirPods Pro. That would be cool.

What about the ****ed up HDMI-CEC (or what ever Apple uses), ever since the new update my Apple TV and my TV are not playing nice anymore with regards to switching input and power.

The test was probably "does it show 128 GB?" :p

anyone else w/previous-gen 4K having issues with Plex & YouTube TV apps ever since tvOS 16 update?

The older 4K in the bedroom never turns off the TV. It turns it on fine. The Living Room one works as expected on the current TV and worked on the old one.

After updating to 16.1.1 I'm experiencing sound issues....a radio-like static noise that happens every 20-40 minutes and only lasts maybe 2-3 seconds, other times the sound just drops. I did not have these issues running tvOS 16.

I know this because I ended up returning the Apple TV 128GB running 16.1.1 and got the same model but left it on tvOS 16....no sound issues at all. Two days later the device auto-updated to 16.1.1...guess what? Sound issues are back.

I then enabled Beta updates and downloaded 16.2 Beta 3 and the sound issues are still present.
