tvOS 16 removes the ability to swipe down to open the info/audio/subtitle menu in apps that use the old style of player where the menus are on the top. Instead to open the top menu you need to swipe up and then move to the right and choose “setup”. So far the only app I’ve found uses the old player is Disney+, which also fast forwards when you move right to the setup button. Basically tvOS breaks apps that don’t use the new player style that was introduced a few years ago.

Anyone with iPhones with calibrated personalized spatial audio can tell if it syncs with tvOS as well? Articles only said it would with iPads and Macs.
Apparently yes -

Support for Personalized Spatial Audio. Use your iPhone with iOS 16 or later to create a Spatial Audio profile that improves sound on AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max when you use them with Apple TV. See Access Spatial Audio and noise controls for AirPods on Apple TV 4K.

Apple today released tvOS 16, the newest version of the tvOS operating system that is available for the Apple TV 4K and the Apple TV HD.

The tvOS 16 update can be downloaded over the air through the Settings app on the ‌‌‌Apple TV‌‌‌ by going to System -> Software Update. ‌‌‌Apple TV‌‌‌ owners who have automatic software updates turned on will be upgraded to ‌tvOS 16 automatically.

Apple TV software updates are more minor in scale than updates for other platforms like the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, but there are a few new features in tvOS 16 to be aware of.

The update brings game controller support for the the Nintendo Joy-Cons and the Nintendo Pro Controller. When Matter launches, the Apple TV with tvOS 16 installed will support it, for improved interoperability between smart home accessories from different companies.

tvOS 16 brings cross-device connectivity, a feature that lets developers integrate Apple TV apps with iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch apps to unlock new experiences on Apple TV. Multi-user profiles have also been improved through the use of a shared keychain, which means users won't need to sign in and choose their profile when launching an Apple TV app.

tvos 16.1 should add the facetime continuity with iphone as a webcam like the mac

Yeeeees! Nintendo Switch Pro Controller support!
Finally!!!
Thankyou. Perhaps I should even try out an Apple Arcade subscription now...

I hope this fixes the YouTube black screen pauses between start of videos and ads. So freaking annoying!
It is YouTube’s fault. Agreed it is very annoying. I gave YouTube a 1 ⭐️ for that. Anyways as a workaround I think you can disable frame matching.

Yes 100% doing that for me I came here to see if others were affected. Can no longer change tv volume. Guess I have to go to the physical remote.
I get that too. I have a Samsung tV. Not good enough. This is a essential function and apple need to fix asap

Yeah, I've done that, thank you. But every so often, the Apple TV seems to reverse the settings. YouTube app writers suck.

Plex uses the swipe down and it works fine

Anyone try the iOS 16 remote with TVos16? I’m unable to change TV volume using my iPhone volume buttons. It worked perfectly with iOS15/ TVOS15 before…
Yes this! I’m so glad I’m not the only one. This is an issue with all 3 Apple TVs I have. I can still control the system volume with the actual Apple TV remote(that I never use) but no longer with my iPhone or iPad. I hope they fix this soon. I worked fine before the update.

After updating and putting on a show I began smelling what smelled like burning plastic, so I got up to check the ATV box and it was burning hot! After unplugging and then plugging back in it won’t turn on… :(

Damn! Apple better replace that

Just to add. My actual Apple TV remote isn’t changing volume? Anyone else noticing this? I see others have had a issue with the iOS remote

I can change using the volume buttons with iOS 16 remote on tvOS 16 but I do so from the Lock Screen on my iPhone. Last resort there’s one more way; hold over the volume bar and you can get toggle it back and forth to change the volume.

Hope this helps!
