I think there has to be a better way to see if the remote has to be updated. It is easy to check if the tv os has to be updated but all you can do for the remote is to check the firmware version. It doesn't tell you if it needs to be updated. Currently the only way is to install it manually. If it is a higher firmware number after installing then it had to be updated. If it is the same number then it didn't need updating. But you will only know after installing it.

Surely apple could have some better way of saying if the remote firmware needs updating - just like it tells you if the tv os needs updating.
How do you do it manually? I wasn't aware it was something they updated at all??

[doublepost=1463447545][/doublepost]Seriously. The slide show on the Apple TV 4 is a disaster. I have a shared file with 1000+ pictures in it -- the atv only plays the first 50 over and over. Previous generations handled it fine.
I think the repeating of photos in slideshows has been rectified, having problems when selecting computer slideshow select photos then islideshow then it crashes anybody else has this problem

This is supposed to happen automatically but you can force it when required by doing it manually as follows:

Open the Settings app and navigate to the Remotes and Devices > Remote menu. With Remote selected, press the Play/Pause button four times to begin the update, which will take about 10 minutes to complete. The remote battery level must be at 25% or higher for the update to begin. You can monitor the progress of the update using Xcode in the Apple TV device console. Once the update is complete, the version number in Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote will read 0x0245.

It is not necessary this time however because the remote firmware version is still 0x0245. But keep these instructions handy for next time it is needed.

The last time it was updated was for tv os 9.2.

I too was confused by the change until I read this. It just goes to show how confusing the whole touchpad remote experience is. The click wheel was brilliant for music, and multitouch is great when you are actually touching the content on the screen. But I wish Apple had gone with Wii style motion tracking for the Apple TV interface, not an interface that causes so much thumb fatigue. Can anyone say anything positive about the Siri Remote?

The touchpad remote sucks. Worst thing I have ever used. Bring back the wheel.

Does this fix the screwy framerates when playing back videos from iTunes libraries? This has been frustrating enough for me to go back to our gen 3s.

"Well, it's black and smooth and long"... Which is to say that the positives are as superficial as lines from a porn movie.

I can't figure out how to setup my own photos to be the screen saver. I just bought the device yesterday. I am at the screen saver settings screen, select my photos. It brings up my iCloud photos but all i can do it view photos. I can't select an album to use as the screen saver.

Since the last time updating my Apple TV I can no longer scrub through the video player with the touchpad. I can only jump 10 seconds at a time with the corners. Did anyone else notice this? Was it a bug or intentional?
Purposeful. Now to scrub you first click to pause and then scrub. This was done to prevent accidental scrubbing when one picked up the remote and accidentally brushed across the trackpad.

I think I like the new update ... Interface works smoother, menu scrolling , and multitasking were very glitchy , now they are smooth .. I think there is a new option in Settings/AirPlay / Security , at the bottom ? Am I wrong? ... But, I hugely miss the thing I used to have on 9.1 , which is - play music in background (via Fexplorer, some Radio app , etc.), and play game. Now, everytime I press Play/Pause button in game, it stops the music in the background.

Okay so I have TVOS 9.2.1 and now I cannot use Home Sharing through the "Computer" App on the Apple TV. I have to go into the "Music" folder to access and play my music. When I go into the "Computer" App it tells me to turn on home sharing which it already is. I turn it off and back on and nothing changes. Anyone else having this issue?

Yes I have that problem also when it does work I've got the photos folder missing if I go back into iTunes home share deselect my photos then it appears been that way for a while let's hope they fix it soon

A new feature is after watching something for a while without touching the remote, you'll get a pop-up asking if you're still watching, I guess it will switch off if you don't respond. It's good since it happened a few times that the kids would let YouTube or Netflix play and it would just keep playing the next videos forever and my data would be gone.
