Following the announcement of new MacBook Pro's at WWDC today, Apple has already released a software update for the Mid 2012 MacBook Pro. The update, which weighs in at 1.06GB, offers updates to a few non-specific issues:
About MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) Software Update 1.0

This update is recommended for MacBook Pro (mid 2012) models.

The update includes fixes that improve graphics stability, external display support, and USB 3 device support.

Yea, I didn't mean to imply exactly that.
You'll also have to think that anything that takes advantage of the high resolution will generally be a higher file size, so it's all going to add up. It'll be great once SSDs come down in price more though, so something like 512gb could be the standard for the starting model.

the biggest design flaw on these skinnies is the lack of support for a 2nd SSD drive.

The SSD's in the 'Next-Gen' MacBook Pro is a custom daughtercard, similar in concept, but a different arrangement, to what's been in the MacBook Air. It'll probably take 2-3 months before 3rd-party SSD options are available.

It is an interesting question anyway... How is an external display handled, which has standard resolution? And that in both situations... As a second monitor and as the main monitor with the lid of the MBP closed... What a dpi mess this must be!!!

I hope this does not mean that everything is just double the size from now on "old" monitors...

This site is just entertainment value right?

someone please correct me if i am wrong, but this site is just for entertainment value right? seriously do any posts here really affect market polls for apple to consider for a second what they improve or discontinue - really?!

right now i feel that APPLE has absolutely NO business / market / client transparency -- WHAT'S Up APPLE?!

i feel the events yesterday and every day leading up to yesterday was simply apple just resorting to rumors as a vague source in which to dispel certain 'information' or 'new' development, or extermination of certain services or products, but in an extremely vague way -- giving too much room for interpretation by the general public.

when in turn, really are consumer consensus simply just a tool of marketing at the end of the day to, what, get a poll of what consumers might actually buy or what they 'wish' for, so that apple might consider in their next keynote to present as a foreseeable or possible development?

the blatant 'no mention' at all about the mbp 17" discontinuing, or being taken off the store sight -- no mention at all anywhere on the store sight, just not listing it all of a sudden, making true to the 'rumors'

but the 'rumors' were just taken by the public in the first place as 'predictions' by wobbly sources(?) which no real serious consumer would really take with any grain of salt. but then we get slapped in the face with no mention and no explanation nor details on the store website, is absolutely abysmal business practice period!

take this following example into consideration:

even an innocent scenario at a local mcdonalds here which i used to frequent a bunch through my secondary school years to order my favorite meal no.3 - a two cheeseburger meal for 3.99, which officially discontinued or taken off their meal deals 12 years ago(?)

so..........

i found myself in a mcdonalds a couple of months ago and not seeing the meal deal on the board and making an intelligent guess that oh they don't have that meal option anymore don't even bother. what did i do?

i asked politely anyways, what the heck right? i asked politely if i could still order a two cheeseburger meal for 3.99 and they replied with no hesitation or question, and with a smile -- "of course you can miss, what drink would you like with that?" i always say sprite and oh please no salt on my fries THANKS! the order went through their intercom into the back, no two breaths after she confirmed "will that be all?". this is mcdonalds common now !

yes i read all the 'rumors' and 'predictions' about the 17" mbp while i was still saving up to get the base line latest gen of 2011 model to replace my now sluggish 2007/2008 model for my home recording studio, and POOF and SLAP on the face. no explanation, no accountability just off of the store site. feels very disrespectful somehow, i'm a loyal mbp 17" user, i'm a musician and i chose this line of pro to be my work horse. it has been an incredible machine for me, i put a lot of money into my music career and this to me is a huge investment which has paid off year after year.

NOW -- now i feel i am, in a way, FORCED to consider the new retina 15" mbp that might not be upgradable in the future?!?!?!?!!

what kind of business are you trying to pull off here exactly apple?!?!

You should then consider making your music on a cheeseburger in future.

lol, this is the first time I've seen anyone compare Apple to McDonalds! :p

I asked for this LOL!

You should then consider making your music on a cheeseburger in future.

Actually I produced a whole electronic/experimental/noise/glitch album while munching on a two cheeseburger meal. It is called R A D A D A D A I S T with 56 purchases (downloaded) the first week it was released and now a total of 58, 042 copies downloaded around the world.

I felt someone had to point out how absurd the situation was yesterday.

Ha ha lol. Is possible to be the longest whine post ever in macrumor. Is amazing. So funny you spent time to write that false essay. No fact is in it, but took you long to write. Lolz

But... Isnt the Retina display only for the 15inch model? Me and probably others that is looking for the 13inch only got getting minor spec updates - and from my understanding it was also only the 15inch model that got the reduced size.....

I felt someone had to point out how absurd the situation was yesterday.

Right, and we are supposed to take an 'artist' with a song called radadadaist seriously? Seriously, if 2" less screen means you can't create music, you have bigger problems than what Apple does. Buy an iMac/mac pro/bigger external monitor.

And it is not absurd to discontinue a model with low sale figures. Apple are a business who are out to make money. You are but one customer, among millions who have spoken with their money and purchased devices with 15" or smaller screens. Move on to a competitor if you really feel that shafted.

Not necessarily. Increasing texture compression by a factor of 2:1 or 4:1 usually his little effect.. unless of course textures are already heavily compressed.

And yeah... but for now, external hard drive it is ;) Not that we should be using our machines without backup anyway :)
