Pfft.
This is exactly why I switched away from Windows. No excuse for this. I have a LaserJet printer that is newer than my iMac and since I installed SL it will not print.

Shame, Apple. Watch your own ads.

You are aware that HP is the one the Develops and then releases the Drivers for Apple to Package.
Since HP Refuses to Release a API to program Full Functional Drivers, It is HP's Problem and Not Apples, HP has allot of functions developed into their devices, And will not let anyone access their firmware fully.

Only basic drivers can be developed, But without the Programming code to access HP Firmware included with the Printers & Scanners, Apple could Hardly be at fault for this,
HP has tried foolishly to explain why the drivers are late, Allot of People want to blame Apple, But not this time.

If you check the HP site the same drivers where released today by HP in single Package Form in each Printers Sub-forum, Apple just Packages the Drivers that HP gives them and distributes accordingly as a service to users.

Also a Lame Excuses from HP on the "HP Site" saying they are working on More then 50 other Printer and Scanner Drivers and those will be released in time, and then Some will not be supported at all.

To blame Apple is not directing the Problem to the correct Business, And those of us that had used HP Printers and Scanners in the past are aware of the poor services and Support for Newer & Older Equipment that HP has.

I switched to Canon a few years back due to Poor Driver availability and support service. HP claims they have Superior support I never saw it .

If there was not such a Outcry of upset HP users, you wouldn't have seen allot of these drivers, HP Support was Directing some users to Buy New HP Printers and also implied they were not Going to Support Snow Leopard 10.6 for allot of printers, This of course Outraged Allot Of People.

You Be the Judge, Here are the Links:

http://pcworld.about.com/od/macosx/Snow-Leopard-Users-Report-HP-P.htm

"It also Appears that HP has removed the Blog Posting from the Service Tech that told One user to Buy a New Printer, But If you would like to search, I am sure someone has a grab of the Blog."

But to be fair HP is the Responsible Party and so are allot of other Manufactures that have come to the party late.

Allot of Manufactures are Following the "CUPS API" and need to do a full rewrite of the Printer drivers, This might be the Problem & might Not.

HP Has Never been known to Support Users with Driver Updates unless they are pushed up against a Wall and threatened, And this as it appears, is what has happened.

(I am Glad for the Out cry of Users to Force HP to Support their Equipment)
It is just a shame it has to resort to this, But this is HP.:(

I dropped HP like I said a Few Years ago, I have been Very happy with Canon and Epson in My Office's, HP had cost me allot of Money in making me believe that they had superior support & Service's, And at Least Speaking for Myself, I am Unimpressed with how they treat their Customers both Business and Commercial.

For anyone interested, Gutenprint released version 5.2.4 of its open source drivers (SL has version 5.2.3). Get it from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/gutenprint-5.2/5.2.4/gutenprint-5.2.4.dmg/download

Other good open source drivers:
-hpijs http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs
-pxlmono http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/pxlmono

Note: as I said, these are -> OPEN SOURCE <- drivers, so you may not get all the fancy features, but they do support a lot of printers that the official Apple/Manufacturer drivers may not for basic printing.

anybody know if any of these work with a LaserJet 1020?:(

Hi gang, HP Color LaserJet 2840 (all in one) here...still can't scan...can anyone scan using SL? I know the support document shows an asterisk next to this model...but still shows print only capability...this is what was possible before...so I am wondering if this was just not updated. Please advise. Thx.

No problem. I too have an LJ2840 and it "broke" upon an SL install. Simply uninstall the old HP drivers. There is an uninstall option in Applications/HP Laserjet Software.
After uninstalling the entire package, simply re-install all the drivers again. All the functionality will work again just like it did before SL. Upon re-install, it will have to activate Rosetta. I'm not certain if that is for the printer / scanner software itself or just the install program.

Below is a thread from the Apple forum where I originally found the answer. Also, a link to HP's driver download section to download the 10.5 driver. Yes, it is the 10.5 driver. To my knowledge, there is no true 10.6 driver for the printer / scanner (yet).

Hope this helps!

My HP Photosmart works fine in SL. Its a C6380. Hope this update is just a bit of stability added because I don't want my printer to stop working now.

Not to mention that typing the printer/scanner's IP address into the Printer Utility has solved the issue for several HP LaserJet models:

1) Print out a configuration page by pressing the Go and Job Cancel buttons simultaneously.
2) From configuration page 2, get printer IP address: example: 10.0.1.198
3) In Snow Leopard Add Printer utility,
3a) Select add new printer.
3b) Select Protocol "HP Jetdirect - Socket"
3c) Enter IP address (2 above) into Address field.

Once the IP address has been entered, the Add Printer utility finds the printer and auto selects the 2100 series driver. I was able to print out a test page once the 2100M showed up in the printer list.

The scanner of my Laserjet 3055 still is not working. Under Leopard it ran smoothly and I was able to scan over WLAN using bonjour.

I read a rumor on the apple discussion boards, as well as HP forum, that they were coming out with another HP driver updates soon. supposedly even the 1020 will work off of the 1022 driver again??!
