Any of you math guys know how much the difference in speed will be between the Imac Quad I7 2.8 to the Mac Pro Xeon Quad 2.66? Thanks

We'll probably know once the core i7 imacs are out and tests from macworld and cinebench start to emerge.

After all this, I may just wait for the next-gen 6 core xeon early next year. A tower with just one of those may strike the balance between number of cores and the performance gain per core.

A dual 6 core Xeon unfortunately wouldn't be 12x as fast, as much as I would like it to be. But a faster clocked 6 core may hit the sweet spot for price/performance ratio in a tower (even though there is quite a premium on those towers!)

Cinebench results for iMac Core i7 versus others

We ran Cinebench 10 on the 2.8GHz Core i7 iMac. We got a multi-core score of 15290. That's very close to what we got on a 4-core Nehalem Mac Pro 2.93GHz (15521) and much faster than what we got on the newest 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo iMac (6511). For obvious reasons, all those results pale in comparison to the 8-core Nehalem Mac Pro 2.93HGz which got a rating of 25878.

Have any of you run Cinebench on a 2.66GHz Core i5 iMac yet?
