No idea what changes with these firmware updates. Have not checked what version my MagSafe is running. Will connect later and leave it for some time and check whether it has been updated.

Where is MagSafe charger defined as compatible with Apple Watch ? According to Apple website it is compatible with AirPods and iPhone.
Someone mentioned it is an error in the article. Not sure why they haven't fixed it yet.

This is an area of interest for me. I understand the MagSafe charger will update if you plug it into a Mac, iPhone, or iPad. However, it will also apparently update wirelessly if you have it wirelessly charging your phone. There's some sort of 2 way communication going on there, but I don't think I've ever seen it clarified exactly how that works. Also, is that also part of the Qi2 standard, or is it proprietary? So many questions.

EDIT: if my charger updated properly, I think the update is displayed as Firmware 133.0 on iOS, or version 1.33 on macOS.
Well I’ll be…
I plugged it into my MacBook and under USB, System Information reported its firmware as 1.24. I left it plugged into the Mac overnight and now it says 1.33.

In light of this update would it be better to buy a charging stand which holds the OEM Magsafe puck from Apple to charge your phone instead of buying a Qi2 wireless Magsafe-"compatible" charging stand? I am in the market for a wireless charger but wonder if its better to just use the Apple puck in a holder?

I expect it depends upon your priorities. If you want the "most compatible" solution, that is likely to be the Apple branded product. If you want the "least expensive" solution... that is likely to be some other brand.

However, if the brand name is an unrecognizable series of random letters, be warned: some of those el-generico brands may not be correctly adhering to the Qi charging standard or to safety standards, which theoretically means that they could do Bad Things(TM), such as overheat. I mean... is it realistically likely that any harm will come to your devices? Probably not... but we all know full well that the cheapest bidder invariably cuts corners somewhere, and sometimes it's just plain not worth it to find out where they cut, this time around.

So read some reviews and check into the brands reputation, at the very least.

Thank you

Ah ok, because it would have been too good to have just one charger for all my devices 😅
I'm wondering the same thing. Even if we don't know for sure about this update, can anyone provide some examples?
I think only Apple could, but they have this bad habit not to release changes note anymore…

bought mine years ago, so it’s gen1: guess there isn’t an update for it; made clear by the comments as well 😜

I'd wager that all Wireless Chargers Qi or MagSafe have some processing unit on board. Otherwise, they'd have no way to do a "handshake" to determine if they are connected to a phone, how much wattage to supply to the phone, or if someone just placed magnets on them. Creating a potential hazard.

Yeah, makes perfect sense. It was just one of those things that I'd never thought about until I saw that article.

I have the Apple MagSafe 25w charger model A3250 and the firmware is stuck at 133.0. The article would suggest that the firmware should be at version 143.0? I have left phone on charger all day, over night, and nothing - seems stuck at 133. The charger was at an older version out of the box (120 something).

133 is the updated version. 124 was the prior version. You’re good!
