Apple Releases Updates to Apple Music and TV Preview Apps for Windows

If you click the Library tab (to show your purchased media) there aren't any ads. But you knew that already.

Yeah. But it doesn't stay on that screen. It opens by default to "Watch Now" which is now identical to the "TV+" tab.

And, once I navigate through the library which for some reason has to completely reload its cache, slowly and frequently, and start a show, once that show ends the "watch now" tab wants to send me to Hulu for the next episode. So I have to navigate all the way back into Library and re-find the same episode.

The library navigation is deliberately clunky, they're trying to drive you to the "Watch Now" tab which as I said is identical to or worse than the "TV+" tab with all the ads.

Not to mention that if theres' any content during the credits it's impossible to watch because the app shrinks what I'm *WATCHING* to a tiny little window and shows a full screen STILL PICTURE of the next episode. If I try to re-maximize that tiny window, the playback stops. Starting playback minimizes it again.

Even Netflix and Hulu let me just watch the credits without interruption. Their interfaces have actually gotten a little better and less user hostile lately. Apple's continues to get worse.

This is not me just complaining to complain. I've bought hundreds of dollars of TV shows and movies from Apple. I just want them to not treat me like crap for giving them money. I just want to watch what I bought them a supposedly premium company in a premium experience. But Apple just wants to drive engagement. I even have Apple TV+ through Apple One but that's not enough payoff money for them to quit bugging me.

Does anyone know if with the Apple Music Windows app can you add music folders to an iTunes library and sync accordingly? I don't stream.
If you are old school you are better off keeping iTunes

Stuff like local library management is targeted mostly to people who have Apple Music. Also stuff like CD ripping and other legacy things are currently not present in the app. And going to the iTunes store opens up the old iTunes integrated webpage anyway and hidden and off by default. The new app is more like the webplayer on steriods with downloading and uploading and tag editing as extra. That is about it. Also no smart playlists.

Anyone knows how to see the bitrate and sampling for lossless and high resolution tracks? Hovering on the lossless icon doesn't show anything and acceesing the song properties window shows all song being 256kbit at 44khz. This is odd.

In VLC. Tools/Effects (at least in the german version. in english it is maybe different).

Thanks MacRumors! I didn't know there was an app for Windows. It's working fine, better than the webversion. iTunes is too slow.

People use Windows as their main computer in 2023?

...yes? And Macs, and iOS devices, and anything else I can get my hands on. I like learning about technology, not being beholden to one company's vision of what technology should be. I have varying degrees of appreciation (and dislike) for Apple's approach, Microsoft's approach, Google's approach, and so on.

With everything in such constant flux, with new companies, new ideas, new concepts constantly at the forefront, it feels oddly self-limiting to corral yourself in a single company's garden. But, to each their own.

Is the TV app on Windows junked up with ads now like the Mac version?

I really wish there was a way to watch my purchased tv shows aside from that awful ad filled junk app.

They make it so difficult to just select from my library, or continue the next episode from my purchases rather than sending it to Hulu or something.

But boy they certainly make sure I see every movie or show they want to advertise to me, even if it’s not on a service I have.

I got an Apple TV and bought shows from Apple specifically for a less junky experience than from Google, yet somehow Apple has made their app worse than YouTube, Hulu, or Netflix.

So by "ads", you are referring to suggested media from other apps? There are no paid ads in the app. Never have been (that I've ever seen). But I agree that it can be confusing to navigate when much of the content can't be accessed due to lack of a subscription to this channel or that channel.

I'm old retired, and I use both windows (I still build my own Desktops because I love to tinker with hardware etc.) I have a mac mini M1, a Air m2, Iphone 13 mini, ipad pro 12.9 M1. I use my Apple stuff for the reliablity and I know they will always work together. Apple music works fine for me on windows. I do have a lot of DSD music files which I use Sony Music Center to play them on my windows machine, also use pine player on the Macs for the DSD files as well. I still burn my own CD's for my NAD CD player for home audio. I use Burn for the macs, and Burnaware for windows. Both the macs and the PC share and see each other on my network soI can swap files between the two. So yes I guess I'm abit different. But in this world of hi res streaming, I still use my CD player as have over 350 CD's and High res Files that I bought over the the years.

I don’t see how they aren’t getting paid to promote movies on services that I am not subscribed to.

I don’t see them now but for a week or more every time I opened the app there’s Jason Statham glaring at me to watch his new movie on I think it was HBO or something, but I know for a fact I don’t have the service the movie is on because I did click through and it wanted me to subscribe (and it was definitely not tv+)

If that’s not the definition of an ad then I don’t know what is. If there’s one thing we know about Apple it’s that they get their money, so I highly doubt that was free advertising.

And besides, they have an entire apple tv+ tab to advertise at me in. But that clearly wasn’t good enough. Look at the watch now page then toggle to the tv+ page. Identical except for the tiniest row of thumbnails of what I was watching. Huge banner over it and dozens of banners underneath. They didn’t have to do that. That’s what I mean by junking it up.

Jesus tap-dancing Christ fix Music for the Mac. Airplay delay when playing music is insane. Odd navigation behavior constantly. So ridiculous.
