You could just buy a straight usb c to 3.5mm adapter for $10.

I don’t know why this dongle exists. It’s a fraction of the cost to buy a cable that avoids the adapter altogether in almost every scenario I can think of.

Mostly joking.

Yeah this dongle at $30 is kind of ridiculous.

Man, I don't know if this new port/adapter situation will break CarPlay in my Prius.
If your car has a USB-A port, you get a USB-A to USB-C cable and it should have 0 problems.

If your car is hardwired with a Lightning cable (I don't know if any Carplay cars did this but let's say somewhere there is one), you use the adapter from Lightning to USB-C.

Same if you have a USB-C port in your car, use the included cable.

Carplay always used the USB 2.0 protocol, changing cables means nothing to the protocol itself.

Will it be possible to use this with the iPhone 15 pro? Would love to dock it with a 4k monitor as well

It's probably for those with a hard lightning connection for some accessory. I'm glad they made this adapter.

It is better that it exists than if it did not exist, but at $30 there are cheaper and better options for almost any scenario. I think it's just so that they can say people don't have to buy new cables.

If the need for this adapter is so obscure you can't think of it, why is everyone complaining about the price? It seems like a really great price for the three extremely eccentric people who might actually need it.

this is just ridiculous. 30$ for a dongle when you can buy a 3$ usb c cable anywhere
Well, obviously this is for the three people who, for some reason, don't want that $3 USB-C cable. $29 seems perfectly reasonable for an option to handle some obscure edge case.

whew, I was kinda wondering what my Seek Thermal camera would do. I tried to use it with a C to Apple Pencil charger but it didnt work.
glad they released this. actually surprised this didnt come out with the switch to USBC on the iPad Pro / iPad.

I'm going to use my USB to 30 pin cable and then a 30 pin to lighting adapter and then lighting to USB C adapter. Yeah, that should work.
