Apple today released visionOS 1.1.2, a minor update to the visionOS operating system that came out alongside the Vision Pro in February. visionOS 1.1.2 comes a month after the launch of visionOS 1.1.

visionOS updates can be installed by going to the Settings app on the Vision Pro, selecting the General section, and choosing Software Update. The Vision Pro headset will need to be removed to install new software, with a progress bar available on the front EyeSight display.

According to Apple's release notes, the update introduces unspecified bug fixes and is recommended for all users.

Apple has also released a revised visionOS 1.2 beta that is available to developers. The new version has a 21O5555f version number, up from the prior 21O5555e version.

Apple is pushing regular updates to visionOS. As mentioned above, the visionOS 1.2 update is already being beta tested, and we're expecting to see visionOS 2 introduced in June with a whole new feature set.

I’m excited to see what vision OS 2 does. Overall it’s becoming more stable. But boy is the quality of software in general from Apple over the last year been hit and miss. Can we get back to the days of better testing, better development. I feel it’s not been the same under Timmeh.

I hope they iron out this device. I really loved my AVP before returning it. It’s just too unrefined, the eye tracking was buggy, and most importantly the app experience is just really lacking. The price doesn’t match the delivery of the product. It’s my first Apple device I’ve ever returned due to lack of satisfaction.

I've got my theory (repeated on these forums a few times) about what happened...

Tim Cook/Phil Schiller/Apple's open hostility to developers finally came back to bite them.

Historically, people started out as Apple fans, then developed third party software for Apple's platforms, then they applied to Apple and were hired to be devs.

Then Apple decided to make the iOS App Store. They decided to bully good developers, holding them up over arbitrary rules while simultaneously letting a lot of spam and scams onto the store. They decided to charge a brutal protection fee, for which developers received no benefits.

When developers want to release awesome stuff for free, what'd Apple do? They had to charge for that, too, despite Apple already being a major beneficiary. Working for Apple for free simply wasn't (and isn't) good enough - Apple needs to charge for that privilege.

And thus the pipeline died. The App Store is a wasteland, nobody cares to write third party software for Apple's platforms, and nobody wants to work at Apple.

There's been some hints of this disaster for awhile. ie, how difficult Apple has found it to hire people who know about AI.

Don’t mind all three of us who are downloading the bug fixes right now.

Thanks, Apple! Day by day they’re making this device better.
I thought they made this "vintage" already. Glad they're still working on it for those who bought it.

I’d agree with that. You can’t beat down the people who help create differentiation with your brand. Everyone you named is what I’d consider arrogant and out of touch. They think they know what people want, but Jobs was one of the few who mostly did, but not always.

Lol, people still use this thing?
I actually do. Great for watching movies/TV. I use it in place of my iPad for sofa websurfing. And I've used it a couple times at the office to do some personal work on multiple "displays" which somewhat emulate my multimonitor setup at home (center monitor for productivity, side monitors for mail, calendar, iMessage, Discord and other misc items like HomeKit cameras and such). Actually works pretty well for working on Word documents with all that other stuff going on.

I'm not much of a game player, so 3D shoot-em-up FPS games, while they might be fun for a moment or two, aren't really my thing.

Anyway, hurray for bug fixes, whatever they may be.

Thanks for the thorough response. Appreciate it. Seems like a great use case for you.

I assume you've tried it, explored it, learned all about it before expressing your feelings?

You do know that your statement is made in every thread about the AVP?
Well, they had to turn off eye tracking for me because I have a vision problem. So, I could only use alternative inputs to move around with it. It’s an accessibility nightmare for people with vision issues.

It’s also heavy. And the third-party apps that I would use are almost nonexistent.

But hey, glad it works for you. I wouldn’t buy it if it were $1,000.

I remember being really excited about this product and now I don't even remember it coming out. I'll probably get one in a few years to watch movies on it.

He replies with this all the time. Thinks it’s funny still. 🤷🏻‍♂️
You probably have me mixed up with someone else.

I went to the Apple Store for a demo and it couldn’t lock on to my eyes because I have a vision problem.

They ended up having me use a Magic Trackpad to move around.

It wasn’t for me. Sorry.
