mine just says an error occurred when checking for update
Me too. I haven't updated my iPhone to iOS 18 yet, so I'm trying to update my Ultra directly. It searches for updates for a bit, then this error every time.

UPDATE: OK, it seems that if you have an iPhone paired to your Apple Watch, you MUST first install iOS 18.

yep my Ultra 2 updated after I updated to iOS 18. I wish Apple would figure out a way to get the updates to a smaller file size. It was on iOS 18 at over 8 GB for iPhone 15 Pro and over a 1 GB on the Ultra 2.

Still getting the same error it just stays at “downloading to watch” but progress bar never moves anywhere. It eventually gives up and I get that error message. I’ll just keep periodically trying throughout the afternoon lol.

Preparing took forever for me, to the point that i thought it was stuck. but after a loooong time in "preparing" moved and finally installed it.

Since I upgraded, my AMEX is no longer eligible to be selected as an Express Travel Card?

Works fine on my iPhone though...

Bug?

not as bad as the one year old iPhone 15 not receiving Apple Intelligence
Yeah. That’s worse. And RAM is literally the only factor holding back the phone from using AI. It’s why all the new iPhone 16s have 8 GB of RAM, even the non-Pro phones.

@NetMage Is there some bizarre reason you’re disagreeing with everyone on this? Is it Stockholm Syndrome?

Will installing Watch OS 11 remove the blood oxygen measurement that I still have on my year-old Ultra 2?

iRizz you might want to check on that, I believe you are incorrect there.

Only the new devices sold (so only U.S. sold 2024 Series 9's and ultra 2's and beyond, believe it started in early 2024) have the sensor disabled, everyone else gets to keep using theirs (including Series 9's and Ultra 2's sold in 2023). WatchOS updates don't affect this from what I understand.

Just like the updates since you bought it in late 2023 have not affected it, the v11 update will not affect it either.

Apple created separate / new SKU's for the Series 9's and Ultra 2's that have this sensor disabled (in early 2024) and Apple keeps track of them to keep the sensor turned off. You can see this if you go to the Target website and they have separate device entries for the original Series 9's / Ultra 2's and the 2024 ones with the nerfed sensor. You can still get a 2023 Series 9 45mm cellular black supposedly there, lol (the only 2023 left supposedly).

You're right. Just double checked. They just can't sell any new devices with that feature unless they come to some sort of agreement with the company they stole it from.

What's the build number? Same as the RC last week (22R349)?

Bc battery life on my Ultra is still 🚮 on the RC like it has been all throughout the betas
I upgraded as soon as WatchOS 11 released and normally, my large series 7 watch only dips to about 75% battery over 8 hours of sleep, if I slap it on close to bedtime. I took this thing off the charger at 100% 2-3 hours ago and I am at 79%! I normally NEVER have to do a mid-day boosting charge!

Does anyone know why the battery life is so bad, ideas besides Low Power mode to work around it, is Apple even trying to fix it, etc.?

I’ve already been diagnosed with sleep apnea, so I don’t need to upgrade my ultra just for the sleep apnea detection. I need the blood oxygen sensor, which I still have on my Ultra 1, which I use alongside a Wellue O2 continuous pulse oximetry ring, and my CPAP machine, so I’m good for another 2-3 years.

Happy to report that updating my year-old Apple Watch Ultra 2 to Watch OS 11 has *not* removed the “Blood Oxygen” app.

My understanding of the lawsuit is that if the sensor was enabled at time of purchase, it can remain enabled even in the US.
