watchOS 26.6 can be downloaded for free on an iPhone running iOS 26.6 by opening up the Apple Watch app and going to General > Software Update, or initiating an update in the Settings app on the watch. To install the new software, the Apple Watch needs to have at least 50 percent battery and it needs to be placed on a charger.

According to Apple's release notes, watchOS 26.6 includes unspecified bug fixes and security updates.

More on the features in watchOS 26 can be found in our watchOS 26 roundup.

Not seeing the update so appears to be the same as the RC.

Which sucks because my battery life (Series 7) took a nosedive after installing the RC...

Did this fix the notification not clearing on initial pull down, requiring a second pull down to dismiss?

My watch is stuck on "Preparing". I never know if this is updating or not, especially when the screen goes off and it's just sitting on the charger. I have bluetooth off and I think it's connected to wi-fi, but I don't know.

Mine (iPhone 16 Pro updating a Series 11) took what seemed like an unusually slow 50 minutes at the "Preparing" step before moving to what seemed like a normal-speed Install.

Mine has gone to the wrap around the Apple Logo stage now. I feel like the Samsung watches updated faster. I would get a new Apple Watch that took half the time to update than it usually does.

* annoying that the watch updates are so slow
* not an issue for 99% as the watch just auto updates overnight
* hopefully it will be a bit faster with the new chips coming in the 2026 models
